ITALY (Botteghino): 'Kung Fu Panda 4' becomes biggest 2024 film

Recommended Posts

According to what I've been reading today in some Italian movie sites it is expected for Age of Ultron to beat Grey, passing €20m. If that happens it will be around 20% over The Avengers in euros but on par in dollars.

Over 20M euro are 3M+ admissions, 1 million more TA1, it seems a bit hard to predict. Even if saturday 25 april and friday 1 may are holidays, if the wheater is good a lot of people will avoid cinemas.

Meanwhile on twitter during past week there wasn't a great excitement for TA2:

Very predictable, indeed. Few movies are able to convince casual moviegoers to go at cinema or have repeated views, so is easy to know the potential audience of each kind of movie.

So, can AoU surpass the 22M of TA? :)

The Avengers vs Age Of Ultron

TA first week

D  DM€   TM€

0  0,42
1  2,31   2,73
2  0,66   3,39
3  0,91   4,30
4  1,64   5,94 (holiday for AoU)
5  2,22   8,16

W1   8,16

W2 14,06 (both have one holiday weekday)

W3 16,06

W4 17,07

W5 17,53

T    18,01

Admissions

3D 1.318.090
2D    815.326

T   2.133.416

Average ticket price Euro 8,44 (this could be a problem: 3D is dead, so it's impossible for AoU to repeat this number. With the avg of Fifty Shades or FF7 (about 6,9 euro) and a 3D share of 20%, it will have to sell 300K tickets more to have the same gross of TA1)

DID TA open over a holiday. Otherwise 55% drop seems to be harsh.

Only good news is Avg ticket prices is higher than FSOG.

Yes,Liberation Day is a national holiday in Italy that is annually celebrated on April 25(TA'S OD)

This year it falls on Saturday, so no holiday boost.

Thanks.  The 70+% drop the next day for Avengers now makes sense.

Age of Ultron 1,02M euro 135k adm -55% from TA.

Does this include previews, were their previews?

Champions League quarterfinal Juve vs Monaco avaliable also on free TV yesterday evening had 10M+ viewers. This is the true reason for a low start like this. Nothing can compete with a football match here. Indeed AoU OD is significantly lower than FF7 or Fifty Shades that also opened in weekday.

No tuesday previews.

Thursday AoU € 816.863 - 113.710 adm. Tot 1,82M€. (TA 0,66/3,39).

So 2nd day/Thur comparison AOU is up 24% in €  and it's behind in total mainly because of the holiday.  Will AOU get any boost for the holiday landing on Saturday or will it behave like a normal Saturday?

Saturday (Holiday) AoU € 2.495.708 / 326.928 ADM tot 5,70M€ (TA 1,64/5,94)

Really close and AOU looks like it might pace near or even past A1 on Sunday even though it didn't have previews and didn't have the holiday fall on a weekday.

Since AOU filmed partially in Italy is that giving it any extra buzz there?

The thing is that it's filmed here, but it's not set here, so I don't know.

Spectre should be interesting from this point of view.

Anyway, people are avoiding 3D shows here. AoU has exceeded admissions of TA.
