Thursday boxoffice;#300 2 opens to 3.3mill in late shows

Would be at $39 m/$40 m if it pulled a Watchmen from here on out (that was at $4.6 m).  Prob. not quite as front-loaded in nature as Watchmen, but opening at 8 p.m. instead of midnight could make up the difference and then some in the comparison.

That is a surprisingly good number for a sequel no one asked for, and was then delayed from August to March for what I hear was a pretty good 3D conversion. May end up anywhere between 35-50M. Will have to wait for Friday numbers.

Comparable numbers: PACRIM 3.6 / 37.3; WWZ 3.6 / 66.4; PROMETHEUS 3.6 / 51.1 - so they are all over the place.

Will probably end up higher than Pacific Rim.

BREAKING: Late night showings of the second of the ’300‘ films has grossed an estimated $3.3M for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, putting the epic actioner on track for a $40M to $45M weekend. The 3-D actioner 300 Rise Of An Empire, which is based on the graphic novel Xerxes from Frank Miller, bowed powerfully on 3,470 screens last night — 3,100 of them were 3D. Thursday night plays started at 8 p.m. and continued through midnight and that $3.3M take is great for this time of year to boot. The bloody epic from screenwriter Zach Snyder and Kurt Johnstad stars Sullivan Stapleton and Eva Green in a story about a general who is trying to unify Greece and must first battle an invasion from Persia, led by a vengeful mortal-turned-god named Xerxes. The first 300 opened on the same weekend in 2007 to $70.8M and went on to gross $210.6M domestically (worldwide was $456M). The distribution team at Warner Bros., led by Dan Fellman, is top notch and truly know how to book and play out their movies, allowing them a little time to breathe in a marketplace that is so dang competitive now.

Non Stop opened to close to 30 mill.  This looks like there is tons of interest.  30 mill is a foregone conclusion.  45 looks like it might be the floor now.

Gitesh observation is alright, but Non-stop didn't have a horny fanbase, neither 8pm and 10pm shows. This one has.

Non Stop most certainly did have 10pm shows.  It played at 9pm in Canada everywhere.
