I can't decide which one is better; the first of this one.  This had some really good battles, really strong characters and Eva Green.  She has quite the presence.  She can fight, fuck and flirt.  If you have seen it, you'll know what that means.  I think because of her, moreso her character, I like this one better than the original.

 

8.5-9/10

Awesome movie.  Loved that the Athenians weren't just Spartans in different colored cloaks, love love love Eva Green's Artemisia, loved how the movie calls out how weird it is to have Spartans defending freedom, and I even found the 3D to be very well done.

 

A solid "B", from me.  Probably would have been an "A" if Artemisia's fate had been different and if I didn't know the history was so much more over the top and awesome than even the film presents in many ways.

 

I do wonder if some of the choices they made might hurt where they can go with a sequel though.

Speaking as someone who had pretty much written this off from the beginning as a crappy sequel, I was quite pleasantly surprised by this. Admittedly, it's not an outstanding movie and/or likely to win over people who hated the first, but I honestly think it's on the same level as the first film.

 

A lot of people have already been praising Eva Green and I'd definitely echo that. She was absolutely fantastic and, considering how rare it is for an actor to singled out for a performance in what is basically a goofy action movie, that's really saying something. But I was also surprised by how much I liked Sullivan Stapleton (great name BTW) in the lead role and how much he helped tie the film together. Sure he was no Eva, but he was pretty good.

 

The 3D was also very good and I think helped add to the film. The battle scenes were great.

 

I'll admit though, it did feel a bit overly long, a lot of the non-action scenes dragged and my attention was definitely drifting by the final third (although once the Spartans arrived it quickly came back). And I thought it was a bit of a dick move to end the movie in the battle scene (I wanted to see more Stapleton + Hedley kicking ass). But yeah, surprisingly solid sequel that I honestly wasn't expecting to enjoy.

 

I'll give it what I gave the first.- B

I caught an early showing of this. 

 

If you liked the first film you'll love this one. Just be prepared to hear "freedom" a lot. The movie surprisingly doesn't take itself seriously, there's even a few intentional funny moments. Decent for a obvious cash in, character development is okay. 

 

Eva Green made this film pretty much.

 

And you see her nude.

 

Seems like everyone agrees that if you liked 300 you'll like this one.

It's a really fun movie.  Between this and Pompeii, I am pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed two films I was quite sure I wouldn't. 

 

My favourite line:

The original was the better film for me. It had more iconic battle scenes and lines (this is spartaaaa!!! still gets to me )

Having said that I really enjoyed 300: RoaE  and more so than I'd imagined I would. The plot in itself was pretty pointless. I mean it's great that the Athenians fought as well as they did but in the end it's (predictably) the Spartans who have to bail them out and win the war (did anyone think there was going to be any other outcome?)

 

Eva green's stellar performance was the difference between good and bust for me. I could literally feel the bloodlust and hate radiating from her eyes at times.

Oh man ... I liked 300 (I'd give it a B but I might have liked this one a bit more.  Lots of crazy action ... more of the slow mo (which I always enjoy if not too overused ... and I feel Snyder missed an opportunity to use some of it in Man of Steel during the final fight.) Eva Green ... DAMN, dat Eva Green ... I've never been a huge fan, but man if wasn't counting the minutes until she was going to get naked in this movie. ... and that was quite an interesting sex scene ...BTW, if they do ever get around to making the Wonder Woman movie, she needs to be a villain like Circe ... Themistocles was cool and a bad ass, but not quite to King Leonidas levels.  Like how they made the film essentially take place during 300 and how the end of that film leads to the final battle in this film.  Loved seeing Lena getting to do some big time fighting as well. 

 

VERY pleasantly surprised with this film.

Loved it. Loved the first and like Baumer I am having a hard time deciding which I liked better. The boats scenes were stunning and you were on the edge of your chair in anticipation and excitement. Eva Green's breasts

was a good movie. Not as good as the first one. But i enjoyed it. Had everything i wanted to see, blood, gore and Evas tits. Felt a bit uncomfortable at the sex scene with my wife. she was looking at me thinking i would lower my gaze but fuck that, i paid for this shit:P

Eva Green has truly grown since Kingdom of Heaven. Every role i have seen her in since has been amazing. She oozes a commanding presence on screen. Cant wait to watch penny dreadful.
