Maleficent rules international box office on $48m

Powered by a number one Chinese debut, Disney’s fantasy tale came in higher than estimates on $47.9m to edge out DreamWorks Animation’s How To Train Your Dragon 2 on $43.5m, according to weekend estimates.

The fantasy drama starring Angelina Jolie has reached a formidable $340.8m and opened top in China on $21.8m according to confirmed numbers issued by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International executives on Monday (23).

At $526.8m, Maleficent ranks as the biggest live-action film of Jolie’s career and has grossed $40.4m in Mexico, $34.8m in Russia, $25.7m in the UK and $24.2m in Brazil. It opens in Japan on July 4. Frozen added $3.3m for $858.4m.

Nobody talks about the movie in Russia, where it reached the top spot for the year and even passed Frozen and Thor 2.

It's Run in Russian has been insane. The Dame rules Russia so we should have expected it. But those holds have been ridiculous.

In Mexico is number one of the year easily too.And it'll be number oner of the year in Italy too.I think only Australia, South Korea, Germany and France got less than expected. If it have had great numbers in this 4 countries, it would do 100 million more.

But 700 is still possible if it explodes in Japan. But I think 650 is more likely.Japan prefer animastes movies. The biggest live action of the year got only 30 million ( and Frozen has 235 million and counting).

Why do you think it underperformed in those territories? Did she stop there on her promo tour?

I don't know. She went to Paris (for interviews), not the others. The numbers aren't bad at all, but big hits in these countries could make 20 25 million more each ( then 100 million more total). It could be: taste (they don't about this kind of movies, but Alice, Lord of The rings, The Hobbit, etc. are big hits in some of them), competition (too many blockbusters out there); World Cup, etc.Germany, in particular, don't have big numbers for any movie since the beggining of the year (the last big hit was The wolf of wall Street).

340.8

we can now say that 400 M is a lock (+600 WW)

We can say 220M DOM is lock and 230 might be possible if it holds good this weekend.

This week weekdays of male DOM

1.75M only 23% drop from last weeks monday

2.3M only 19% drop from last weeks tuesday !

So if 400M OS is locked than 625M WW is locked

Why isn't Mojo changing their article accordingly?

I asked Subers on Twitter and he said he can't be bothered. The guy is pathetic.
