The Stingray
Syfy Turns James S.A. Corey's Expanse Into "Game Of Thrones In Space" http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/04/11/syfy-the-expanse/ Synopsis: A thriller set two hundred years in the future, The Expanse follows the case of a missing young woman who brings a hardened detective and a rogue ship's captain together in a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history. Syfy President Dave Howe: The Expanse is epic in scale and scope and promises to be Syfy's most ambitious series to date. Bringing this coveted book franchise to television with our partners at Alcon and the Sean Daniel Company is a giant win for Syfy, reinforcing our overall strategy to produce bold, provocative and compelling sci-fi fantasy stories. The Expanse joins a killer line-up of high-concept, high quality series, along with recently announced original projects Ascension,12 Monkeys, the renewal of Helix, and the soon to premiere Dominion. Anyone else excited for this? I have read the first two books in the series (Leviathan Wakes & Caliban's War), and both were pretty awesome.
Fullbuster
I don't know the books but that could be interesting for sure.
Dementeleus
I've read the books -- they're very entertaining. That being said, calling it "Game of Thrones in space" is wildly misleading. I know SyFy's trying to grab eyeballs with that description, but c'mon now.
The Stingray
I wouldn't know, since I know next to nothing about GoT, but yeah, I just grabbed that headline from an io9 article. Btw, how is book #3? Does it cap off the story? Edited April 12, 2014 by The Stingray
Kevin Bacon
I'm disappointed that "Game of Thrones in Space" isn't the actual title.

Community Manager Water Bottle Posted April 12, 2014 Community Manager Share Posted April 12, 2014 Syfy can't do Game of Thrones in space. There's no way they got rid of their Standards & Practices.
4815162342
It would be nice for SyFy to have a true quality mature sci-fi series again.
The Stingray
Reasonably so, yeah. You should read it. Didn't realize there's a fourth one coming out this summer; Cibola Burn.

4815162342
So these books are a recommendation from the Tele Book club?
Dementeleus
Yep. It's a "realistic" future solar system adventure, with human colonies on Mars, the asteroid belt, and the Jupiter system. The stories have a touch of ALIEN mixed in with Cronenberg, some elements of a police procedural and good old-fashioned space fights. There is an odd connection to Game of Thrones, though. James S.A. Corey is a pseudonym for two writers, one of whom is a former assistant, student, and occasional collaborator with George R.R. Martin.

ladyevenstar22
Syfy doing scifi who'd a thunk it? Good for them I like helix and defiance but I don't trust them anymore , try not to have any expectations where that channel is concerned these past years
Fullbuster
You can watch The 100 too,it's from a sci-fi book too.
Spidey Freak
It has no business calling itself as "GoT in space" if there aren't rival alien dynasties warring one another and forming alliances through forced marriages for domination of the universe.

It doesn't call itself "GOT in space" at all. That's from the (very silly) SyFy press release.
