Since 2010 when DiCaprio did Shutter Island, with the exception of Hoover, which is a political film, all of his films have done very well.  So how can you say he is not a draw?

Unlike Depp, DiCaprio did those movies will well known directors. 2 times Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, Tarantino. And The Great Gatsby was adapted. Depp is trying original movies with not so well known directors.

Aside from Django, those movies were all sold almost entirely on him. Even though it's an adaptation, you're saying Gatsby would have been as big with any other star in that role?

Directors?  Come on.  Either he's a draw or he's not.  He has the numbers to back up my claim.  You can't just ignore the numbers.

Still far short of its break-even profit point.

I'd say it broke even already.  125 mill budget.  It's going to do more than 300.

I respectfully disagree.  With The Lone Ranger, the marketing everywhere was reminding everyone "from the director of Pirates of the Caribbean series".  That didn't help at all.  Scorcese's movies usually are not big hits, with the exception now of Wall Street and Departed.  And Departed's box office was probably due to DiCaprio and Damon and Wahlberg.

Yeah but a lot of those films include supporting performances and animated voice roles.

You have to narrow it down to live-action films they headline (since no one goes to see an animated movie based on who's voicing who really).
