It's hard to see how like Indy overspending its budget and Elementals weak opening can be pinned directly onto Iger specifically. We won't see the fruits of Igers shift until next year at soonest.

For Elemental at least, aside from pushing the Plus, Iger was the one who gave the okay to Soul being pushed to the plus and made the system that Chapek would exploit that took away distribution control from the studios and gave it to the executives. Iger was also the one who pushed most of the MCU Disney+ shows too as well as tentpole only strategy is starting to show faults.

Iger probably should’ve realized that flooding the market with so many Marvel and Star Wars streaming shows was going to potentially bite them in the ass. He favored quantity over quality.

Recently, someone made a post on Marvel Subreddit asking: What was the biggest mistake of phases 4 and 5? The top comment with 1k+ upvotes on that post was that there is no Avengers movie in phases 4 and 5, and we don't know who the Avengers are now. "No Avengers movie" is the most common complaint among the fandom, not the number of MCU shows, and you'll find a lot of such posts and comments on Marvel Reddit. Avengers was the glue that kept MCU together; without that glue, MCU is falling apart. There's still time; if Iger is smart, he would push back Blade & Fantastic 4 to 2026 or 2027 and move up Kang Dynasty & Secret Wars to 2025 and 2026.

Indy’s budget going out of control was partially due to COVID, as well as Harrison Ford’s injury, which forced them to pause filming.

Enormous mistake. You can't go from Endgame to just an age of Ultron type thing. Rushing to the next Endgame wouldnt fix anything.

How would moving up KD to 2025 turn it into an Age of Ultron type thing? The writer already confirmed that F4 won't appear in the Kang Dynasty; then what's the point of releasing it before KD? Also, what is the point of releasing Blade before KD when he is not gonna appear in it?

Yes, but also setting a portion of the movie for expensive de-aging is a choice made at the scripting/approval stage.

This is a refrain I've been making ever since Solo flopped (which admittedly had bloat thanks to nearly reshooting the entire movie — but even setting that aside, it was faaaaar too expensive for the type of movie it was):  Set budgets for films more realistically. Don't go crazy on massive location shoots.  Hire directors/crew that have a track record of coming in on budget (or within a reasonable frame of it).  Set reasonable timetables for movies, pre- and post-production included, so you don't throw gobs of money at the project at the last minute in an attempt to make deadline.

Most good films can turn a profit if they are budgeted appropriately.

Now the last couple of years of inflation has in fact juggled things somewhat, so can't purely do apples-to-apples comparisons to the period of low inflation from the 00s to 10s.  Even so, can still look at budgets with a more critical eye and not just throw money out the window.

Sadly this isn't the first time in Hollywood history that budgets completely spiraled out of control (see some of the catastrophic failures of epics in the 60s like Cleopatra [1963]) and it probably won't be the last.  But hopefully they'll re-learn the lesson sooner than later.

Well it's not like it's the big D23 convention, they probably didn't plan to invest much in guest appearances anyway, just show off clips and trailers.

I'm not taking anything for granted ofc while the strikes are going on, but from a selfish perspective I would prefer to believe nothing else gets delayed.

Tbh them making everything an Avengers level event kind of is affecting them now. Don’t see the problem in an Avengers movie or two before Kang Dynasty that has them face Masters of Evil or someone else. Helps the GA get the dynamic for the newer characters.

So they have Destination D23 this year, which is separate from the D23 Expo, and usually it's a relatively minor thing...except this year they have a 3 hour Walt Disney Studios showcase. My guess is it's not as big as say SDCC, but I definitely could see them covering stuff that's coming out within the next 6 months or so (Snow White, Percy Jackson, the various Marvel and Star Wars shows, maaaaybe an actual title for Deadpool 3).

I expect several of their already announced projects to get delayed.

With the strikes and enormous cast of Avengers it is physically impossible for the movies to come out that soon. Actors have commitments, you cannot simply move a movie with 50+ well-known actors up and start shooting once the strikes end, which is probably when it would have to start shooting if it wants to meet the 2025 date you said. Contractual agreements exist.

It’s more likely for Kang Dynasty to come out in 2028 than in 2025.
