Weekend #'s FIOS: 48.2, EOT: 29.1

I don't know the numbers, but I was under the impression that 60% of the ticket buyers were female.  Most girls at my high school in 1998 were singing My Heart Will Go On probably the same way elementary and middle school girls now are singing "Let It Go".

I think when we talk about something like Titanic, people are oversimplifying how much the film appealed to diverse demographics.I do think it appealed to female demographic a lot, hence the popularity of the song, ost, Leo and Kate etc. but 600m back then is literally astronomical. I still can't believe it. I've seen reports of teenage girls went to see it multiple times, and that helped a lot too, but titanic appealed to a lot more demographics to reach that level of BO returns.

Your point is well taken, but I don't think GRAVITY was "almost completely driven" by female audiences.

Gravity proved that can a lead any gender people who not care. Similar to The Terminator and Alien franchises.

That taps right into society's male fears about being caught enjoying anything that is seen as “girly," lest they be deemed gay or sissies or whatever.

And that's ALL it boils down to.

Didn't Ripley prove it already? Angelina when she had Salt role rewritten from male-Cruise for her? How many times does it have to be 'proven' before idot guys realize it's not a 'surprise', a phenomen nor anything shocking?

Yeah, you don't sell 128m tickets (~40% of the US/Canada population) by just appealing to women.

This time a year ago... we were all about to get ready to find out what Clark did in the bus.

I was actually crying because I had to wait 2 more weeks since the movie only opened here on June 27.
