Impact of the World Cup on Sunday Box Office from HSX

Regarding if World Cup final will affect the box office, did some research

Posted by: xiayun on Jul 12, 14:55

4 years ago, the final was the most watched soccer game in U.S. history, drawing 24.3m viewers: http://worldsoccertalk.com/2010/07/13/2010-world-cup-final-the-most-watched-soccer-game-in-u-s-history/.

On that Sunday, the top 10 films dropped 36.2% on average from Saturday (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2010-07-11&p=.htm). By comparison, for the last three years where there was no WC, films on the second weekend of July dropped 27.5% Sat-to-Sun on average.

The conclusion: yes, it definitely had an impact 4 years ago.

Now this time around, the average rating for WC games has gone up 40% vs. 4 years ago. The time for the final is still good (noon PST and 3pm EST), and the presence of Messi provides more starpower to casual U.S. viewers. So I expect another record-breaking # of viewers.

Prepare to be amazed

Looks interesting. So Cage is basically playing a steward on a plane who witnessed some godly events and tries to find out about them?

Edit: Looked the movie up on Wikipedia. Still sounds interesting.
