RySenkari
November 4-6: "Bartimeaus" Casts A Spell Bartimeaus and the Amulet of Samarkand was the big story at this weekend's box office, scoring $60 million and kicking off the holiday season in style. The big weekend kicked Rapture off the box office pedestal it's been on for the last three weeks, though the film fell softly to $21 million, good for second over Santa Baby, the first of many Christmas movies planned for the holiday season. Bartimaues And The Amulet Of Samarkand: 59,661,880 Rapture: 21,225,674 Santa Baby: 17,560,431 Pandemic: 13,856,784 Angel Of Death: 6,954,328 The Vast Dark Trilogy Part One: The Serpent's Egg: 6,556,214 Fright Town: 3,208,567 The Horn: 2,276,435 Computer Love: 2,119,657 The Great Inferno: 1,773,218 And The Band Played On: ($85,631 PTA at 12 sites) 56 Days Of Love ($40,956 PTA at 5 sites) November 11-13: Openers Can't Beat "Bartimeaus" Bartimeaus and the Amulet Of Samarkand was once again first place, trouncing The Neighborhood and The Father Figure to the tune of $31 million, good for another weekend at first. The Neighborhood brought out plenty of Seth MacFarlane fans, but they could only score $26 million for the raunchy animated comedy and it ended up in second place. The Father Figure was third with a respectable $18 million, pushing Rapture out of the top three. Bartimaues And The Amulet Of Samarkand: 31,600,754 The Neighborhood: 26,573,128 The Father Figure: 18,845,218 Rapture: 15,275,101 Santa Baby: 8,639,154 Pandemic: 8,064,421 The Vast Dark Trilogy Part One: The Serpent's Egg: 4,224,850 Angel Of Death: 4,011,843 And The Band Played On: 2,102,568 The Horn: 1,507,649 American Idols: ($33,657 PTA at 10 sites) November 18-20: "Wings" Breaks Disney Record With Legendary Opening The Disney animated musical Wings Of Icarus soared to box-office heights this weekend with a staggering $61 million opening. The heavily-hyped film, featuring dazzling 2-D animation and scoring some of the year's best reviews, proved to be a major hit across all demographics, grabbing the fifth highest Cinemascore of the year to date. As far as counterprogramming was concerned, Wolfenstein struck a major chord with audiences to become the year's third huge video game themed hit with a $40 million opening weekend. Wings Of Icarus: 61,289,447 Wolfenstein: 40,443,163 Bartimaues And The Amulet Of Samarkand: 17,987,440 The Father Figure: 11,851,774 Rapture: 10,771,436 The Neighborhood: 9,675,886 Santa Baby: 4,957,486 And The Band Played On: 4,680,695 Pandemic: 4,337,564 56 Days Of Love: 2,457,223 November 23-27: "Wings" Reigns High Over Huge Thanksgiving The biggest Thanksgiving weekend in box office history saw Wings Of Icarus conjuring up a hold similar to that of The Grinch back in 2000, barely fading from its huge opening and keeping an iron grip on this weekend's box office, which saw two big openers, Frankenstein and Santa Goes To Jail, open to major dollars in their own right. The weekend was kind to holdovers in general, making it the biggest Thanksgiving ever and one of the biggest weekends overall. Wings Of Icarus: 59,068,443 Santa Goes To Jail: 36,856,947 The Modern Prometheus: Frankenstein: 35,064,836 Wolfenstein: 22,647,504 Bartimaues And The Amulet Of Samarkand: 13,867,555 The Father Figure: 12,074,863 Rapture: 9,843,117 And The Band Played On: 6,615,643 American Idols: 6,138,952 The Neighborhood: 5,137,214 Wings Of Icarus: 82,274,542 The Modern Prometheus: Frankenstein: 55,681,297 Santa Goes To Jail: 49,885,173 Wolfenstein: 31,226,573 Bartimaues And The Amulet Of Samarkand: 18,340,218 The Father Figure: 16,554,279 Rapture: 13,661,432 And The Band Played On: 9,054,773 American Idols: 8,121,218 The Neighborhood: 6,754,319 Edited December 22, 2011 by RySenkari
RySenkari
December 2-4: "Icarus", "Santa" Still Top Post-Thanksgiving Frame In a weekend that didn't see much movement at the box office, Wings Of Icarus became the year's third straight film to be number one for three weeks in a row, holding off Santa Goes To Jail which held unusually well for the post-Thanksgiving frame. The lone opener,A Very Amazing Crazy Christmas Movie, had a very pedestrian $11 million gross and finished fourth. Wings Of Icarus: 26,774,564 Santa Goes To Jail: 23,058,746 The Modern Prometheus: Frankenstein: 17,044,583 A Very Amazing Crazy Christmas Movie: 11,223,754 Wolfenstein: 9,654,337 American Idols: 9,132,475 And The Band Played On: 9,060,754 Bartimaues And The Amulet Of Samarkand: 6,704,315 The Father Figure: 6,312,774 Rapture: 5,701,683 December 9-11: "Seventh Seal" Cracked Open The Seventh Seal stomped box office expectations this weekend and pulled in $47 million. Audiences who typically shun medieval films were lured in by the movie's all-star cast and by good reviews. A Bend In The Road also played quite well, grabbing $28 million as it looks to be a big hit over the holidays. Wings Of Icarus narrowly stayed ahead of Santa Goes To Jail, finishing third with $15.6 million to Santa's $15.2 million. The Seventh Seal: 47,116,583 A Bend In The Road: 28,670,486 Wings Of Icarus: 15,678,026 Santa Goes To Jail: 15,224,576 And The Band Played On: 11,375,496 The Modern Prometheus: Frankenstein: 8,605,471 A Very Amazing Crazy Christmas Movie: 6,822,357 56 Days Of Love: 6,021,336 American Idols: 5,237,584 Wolfenstein: 4,902,587 December 16-18: "The Morrow" Is A Smash Hit Sci-fi epic "The Morrow" played to huge audiences over the weekend. Its $96 million is a December record, beating out the $77 million mark set by I Am Legend. With big turnouts over all demographics, the film was spurned on by huge box office awareness. This appears to be the "Year Of The Space Sci-Fi", with The Morrow only the latest in a line of huge hits. A Bend In The Road stayed strong and stayed in second, while As The Band Played On expanded fully this week. The film, showing the early history of HIV/AIDS, scored majorly at film festivals and arthouse theaters before gradually expanding and with a slew of Golden Globe nominations and critics' circle awards to its name, the film shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. The Morrow: 96,507,338 A Bend In The Road: 21,207,683 The Seventh Seal: 20,869,704 And The Band Played On: 14,950,647 Wings Of Icarus: 11,336,748 Santa Goes To Jail: 11,268,444 Apes On The Run: 7,271,448 56 Days Of Love: 6,354,772 The Modern Prometheus: Frankenstein: 5,171,285 Rapture: 4,186,664 December 23-25 (Had a nice write-up but I lost it thanks to this stupid poopy keyboard. Just enjoy the big numbers.) The Morrow: 68,582,688 Spellforce: The Order Of Dawn: 65,637,680/110,763,211 The Bear And The Fox: 40,237,855 Mars Trilogy: Red Mars: 34,177,652/51,346,273 Santa Goes To Jail: 14,780,653 A Bend In The Road: 13,987,506 And The Band Played On: 10,754,638 The Seventh Seal: 10,031,486 Wings Of Icarus: 7,971,556 56 Days Of Love: 4,653,381 December 30-January 1 (This time I'm just too lazy to do write-up, but enjoy the nice fat New Years' numbers. ) The Morrow: 73,112,698 Spellforce: The Order Of Dawn: 46,587,359 The Bear And The Fox: 35,995,473 Mars Trilogy: Red Mars: 21,228,996 And The Band Played On: 12,265,449 A Bend In The Road: 11,022,376 Santa Goes To Jail: 9,225,765 Wings Of Icarus: 8,668,432 The Seventh Seal: 7,243,889 56 Days Of Love: 4,217,554 (And heeeeeeeere are the holdovers!)
