I don't know if it was promising anything "revolutionary", but on paper this undeniably sounded like a really cool and potentially classic undertaking for everyone involved. It would have been a huge positive step for the industry if this had turned out to be an artistic and commercial triumph. It wasn't the same as Avatar where all the hype was orchestrated by the crew and bloggers were ready to pounce if it didn't deliver as much as they expected it to. Everyone really wanted this to succeed.

Thing is, when a film is hyped as a revolutionary masterpiece as much as this film was, a mixed reception is not quite good enough.

And you have to read the reviews;a lot of what the critics are complaining about are exactly the things that turn off general audience. This film does not seem to anywhere near as "audience friendly" as "The Greatest Showman" a film which did decent box office with a very mixed reception.

When was that narrative ever in play?

only in relative terms... A2 is new age of cinema.. FB3 will be a great film.

I see that someone is trying to keep his reputation as the most over the top fan on this website.

The level of obtuse and ignorance on display with some posters here in this thread is quite alarming.

Indeed. Is it that hard for people to understand that BP and Coogler are going to be all over movie news for the next few months until Avengers come out?

If Coogler is smart, he is going to use BP's success to push all his movie projects for the next 5 years.

Seems like reading comprehension and irony detector ain’t at a high level either.

I've said this before.  But I think this push towards having more films by women and POC is absolutely beneficial to the future of movies.   But at the end the day, like any other filmmaker, you still have to deliver a quality movie.   Which might be the case I usually have an affinity for the "ambitious failure"

24% less than needed to be called a NICE film.

there will never be a movie that will be at 69% after 69 reviews. 47/69 is 68% and 48/69 is 69.57% hence 70%.
