That's something I didn't even think about until yesterday, then I was looking at the top movies of 2014 and I was like "woah. Ninja Turtles will gross more than HTTYD2!" Imagine if someone posted that in April!

Kinda sad a movie going to win the OW by 10m. I hope actuala come in and GotG is at 9.9m. I want a sub 10m weekend box office winner.

Sunday, 7:53AM: Disney is projecting that Guardians of the Galaxy will take No. 1 this weekend with $10.16M with a new domestic haul of $294.6M.  However, some industry estimates this morning think it could even do better than that by tomorrow. As Deadline reported yesterday, the superhero film has hit the No. 1 spot at the domestic B.O. more than other Marvel title — a total of four weekend titles — and is know tied with 2008’s Dark Knight for the most No. 1 holds.  Boyhood  has a projected weekend of $1.3M at 775 sites and will cross the $20M mark by end of today.  Despite Guardians B.O. rule, the projected total for all films is being projected at $65M, making is the lowest total weekend of 2014, off 23% from a year ago. No surprise there. We were expecting that.

I really hope that their Saturday and Sunday estimates for GOTG are not too high because I think there's a good chance they are too high. On the other hand, having witnessed GOTG's shocking run so far it will probably increase from estimates.

I guess the $10.6M early projections were too good to be true. However, if Disney's projections are right, then that's a great number for GOTG's weekend gross.

The Identical is such a weird name for a religious movie. It sounds like a sci-fi film about cloning.

 

But the plot does have a sci-fi bent, in a way...for copyright reasons they have to use a different name and soundalike rockabilly music, but The Identical is a "what if" story about what would've happened if Elvis' twin brother had lived and been adopted by a traveling preacher and his wife, only to grow up rejecting the ministry for a life of becoming...an Elvis impersonator (played by a real-life former Elvis impersonator).
