Did Disney ever explain why we will have to wait so long for the next episode?

 

They didn't.

My guess is they wanted their show to be as successful as possible so they tried to make a huge episode with Darth Vader to prop its popularity up but they were not ready to give us the following episodes yet because season 1 finished in March.

Marketing reasons, an apparently they were right because it's quite a success and people are more excited by Rebels than ever, it's also a way to make people talking about Star Wars just a few months before the movie.

I saw the episode earlier this week and it was to nice how they showed Vader as the badass we all know and how fearful people are of him especially, other than Ashoka, no one knows who he really is
