BoxOffice.com's Top 33 Trilogies of All Time

Recommended Posts

This is self-explanatory, if you are having trouble you can look at this list

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_film_series_with_three_entries

For the sake of the list 3 correlating films of a larger franchise can count as a trilogy as long as it makes sense.

For example Star Wars OT is a trilogy, the original 3 Indiana jones are a trilogy, lord of the rings is a separate trilogy from the Hobbit, etc.

Ranking will go

1. 5 points

2 - 5. 4 points

6 - 10. 3 points

11 - 20. 2 points

21 - 33. 1 point

Deadline: December 13th

1. Lord of the Rings

2. Star Wars OT

3. Indiana Jones

4. Bourne

5. The Dark Knight Trilogy(don't really care for BB or TDKR but I'll admit they're solidly made movies).

Honestly, I can't think of another trilogy right now where at least one of films didn't really suck compared to the other 2.  I'm being generous with Indiana Jones, Temple of Doom was pretty underwhelming but Raiders of the Lost Ark is so iconic and Last Crusade was a great finisher.  And I haven't seen Toy Story 2 or 3 before someone asks.

Wow, this a great topic but it will also be difficult.  So by your rules, I can use Halloween 1-3 as a trilogy?

Yup, that's fine!

I will allow people to be creative with their definition of trilogy, just as long as it makes sense.  Also remember, the more creative you are with the rule the less likely others will vote for it because they might not see it as a trilogy.

For example, X-Men 1-3 could be considered a trilogy.  Also things like the Cornetto Trilogy also count as one. (As does the Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight trilogy)

Great idea. Although I am conscious it will not get votes, can I include some foreign and probably absoutely unknown trilogies on this forum? I will give some notes about it if it is necessary.

1. Bourne

2. High School Musical

3. TDK

Bourne is the only trilogy I can think of where I can't say I full out love all 3 instalments.

The thing that separates HSM from TDK bus that it has a stronger second instalment... Yes I said that.

  :WHATanabe:

I'm not sure if you're serious... TDKR (worst of the TDK trilogy) is better than the entire HSM trilogy combined, and then some.

You have to realize I'm of the HSM generation. Yes I'm serious.

Born 1995... I'm part of it, too. I also had poorly made DTV sequels to Disney classics, Shark Tale, the Ice Age sequels, Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, Mr. Meaty, and other mediocre junk.

But then I grew up.

Seriously, you have to realize High School Musical is only a cheese-fest... nothing more, nothing less. TDK trilogy is a work of art, whether you like Nolan or not. It revived Batman and made him relevant to moviegoers again.

To call anything from HSM on par with one of the greatest superhero/crime films ever is just so wrong on so many levels...
