Didn't submit a list but seriously? Revenge of the Sith? The World's End? Snowpiercer?

The first is absolute trash, the second a massively underwhelming, generic disappointment and the third a highly overrated B movie.

#22:

STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH - 119 points

"So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause."

star-wars-revenge%20of-the-sith-2.jpg

Director: George Lucas

Premise: As the Clone Wars near an end, the Sith Lord Darth Sidious steps out of the shadows, at which time Anakin succumbs to his emotions, becoming Darth Vader and putting his relationships with Obi-Wan and Padme at risk.

BOF user review: Easily the best prequel and not that much worse than the OT. Sure it still has cringe-worthy dialogue, but the lightsaber duels are awesome and Christensen is a lot better than in AOTC (though he's still not really good). Also, say what you want about the movie, John Williams' score was once again fantastic. The only things that bothered me were some dialogue as mentioned above and Anakin becoming evil too fast. Overall though, this is an entertaining film and IMHO a relatively satisfying end to the prequel saga. - miketheavenger

Trivia: The subtitle "Revenge of the Sith" is a play on the working subtitle for Return of the Jedi, "Revenge of the Jedi". For episode VI, that title was abandoned because George Lucas determined that revenge was not a suitable attitude for a Jedi. Since this film, however, is about the triumph of the Sith, "revenge" is entirely appropriate.

LOL guys...

Just watched Upstream Color. Mind blown. Really unique stuff. Can't believe you f**kers didn't vote for it. As Jack Slater would say, "Big mistake!"

After seeing it and Primer on so many lists I had to go and watch them both. While I thought they both had some very thought provoking ideas and very interesting directorial execution at the end of the day, I had no freaking clue what I had just watched. To me they are really more experimental. Closer to something I'd watch in film school than pay to go see. I would never watch those movies again like I could watch a Star Trek movie or Inception. My criteria for ordering my list was simply which one I would want to watch more. Upstream Color and Primer are both one time viewings for me.

#18:

AVATAR (2009) - 126 points

"All I ever wanted was a single thing worth fighting for."

Director: James Cameron

Premise: A paraplegic Marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.

BOF user review: It's a very classic story, and I think one that's universally appealing, albeit often-told. Stock characters, for the most part -- Cameron could've definitely tweaked some of the supporting cast to make 'em more unique and interesting, but despite all that, he really knows how to establish a solid narrative structure, set things up and pay them off, and embed exposition in ways that you don't necessarily notice. And, of course, he's got an amazing eye for visuals and knows how to direct action. And despite being almost hilariously one-note, Stephen Lang's Colonel Quaritch is one of the more awesome bad-ass villains in recent years. - Tele

Trivia: At the time of auditioning, Sam Worthington was living in his car.

I thought this forum was full of haters. Never expected Avatar to be here.

I got to the top 10 and then was like, "Oh my god, Moon isn't on this list."

Thankfully it was.

I didn't put The Prestige on my list as I only watched it after voting, but it deserves its place there.

I don't think Inception should be #1 but it's still a great film. The only one I really, truly disagree with on this list is Gravity. I thought it was a pretty bad film, and doesn't deserve a place in the top 25, let alone #5.

Also, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes should so be on here, shame we couldn't vote for 2014 films.

Thanks for doing this stingray. :)

Hey Treeroy -

Was your first viewing of Gravity in the theater or on disk? Because I have found it makes a big difference. I saw it at the producers guild state of the 3D theater and man I'll tell you I was literally dodging 3D debris. It's super impressive when viewed on that level. I was absolutely head over heels in love with that film but when I watched it at home on regular blu-ray it did hold up nearly as well. I was kinda meh about it.

I still think it deserves on spot on the list but I do question it being considered Sci-Fi. I don't remember there being any Wookies in it. Unless you count Sandra Bullocks bad wig as one.

I think if I had made a list Wall-E would had been my number 1. The second half of that film is pretty standard 2000's pixar stuff. Which isn't a knock on it at all, as Pixar could do no wrong at that stage in history.....But it's first half before they reach the ship is just an absolute master class in how to use film to tell a visual story. A masterclass. I do not have enough good words to say about that flick.
