The Futurist
Pacific Rim, I don't thing they make money with that film maybe after all other revenues than theatrical but it mustn't have been much.
grim22
Batman Begins. It wasn't till the home video numbers came in that a sequel finally became reality. We were pretty close to the Dark Knight trilogy never occurring. Edited December 14, 2014 by grim22

TServo2049
Austin Powers also exploded on video. (I didn't realize until I read old articles that it outsold Men in Black.) Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is another one - it did OK business ($243m WW on a $100m budget). grey ghost
G-I Joe wasn't a big success, was it? 300 m WW with 150 m budget. I think the main reason it got a sequel was toy sales.

Kalo
Hellboy, Percy Jackson, Mission Impossible III (although it did do pretty decent overseas). Star Trek (2009) only made 385m on a 150m budget. it practically bombed overseas. X-Men First class only made a little over $350m on a 160m budget.
