D: Previews von MOCKINGJAY 2 liegen 8 % über MJ1, der gestern zum erfolgreichsten Film in der Geschichte von StudioCanal (Kinowelt) wurde

in Germany, MJ2 previews +8% vs MJ1

In admissions I guess, that means the number in dollars could be slightly below MJ1.

‘Mockingjay-Part 2’ Early Overseas B.O.: Germany Sets Record For Lionsgate Title, But France Still Slow

Early overseas figures for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 2 are rolling in and Germany is exploding, +42% from Mockingjay: Part 1 for a $1.5M off 621 screens, making it the top preview in the country for a Lionsgate title playing in the territory. Note that the distributor sells off foreign and that StudioCanal is handling in Germany.

In the wake of last Friday’s terrorist attacks in France, the citizens of Paris are vying to recover and head back to the cinema. While Mockingjay topped the city’s B.O. charts, selling 26K tickets on Wednesday. In total including Tuesday previews, France counts 205K admissions, -20% from Mockingjay-Part 1‘s ticket sales over the same two day frame a year ago.

All percent hikes for Mockingjay-Part 2 are versus Part 2. Other key territories reporting are Brazil with $1.18M, +6% at 1,245 screens. Netherlands generated $531K for a 9% uptick. Belgium saw a 3% boost taking in close to $300K at 131 sites.  Early indications from key exhibitors in the UK are that advance sales are up.

In total, the global debut for Mockingjay-Part 2 is currently expected to rake in $280M-$305M –which will be higher than Mockingjay-Part 1’s worldwide opening of $276.2M– with foreign delivering $165M-$185M from 33K screens and 87 markets.  In regards to screens and markets, that’s the widest for a title in the series abroad and for a Lionsgate release. Plus, unlike the first Mockingjay, this one has China and Japan in the opening weekend mix.

Revised U.S./Canada opening for Mockingjay-Part 2 now show a FSS $115M-$120M; a huge sum for Lionsgate, however, if those figures stay on track, it will be the lowest opening for the franchise after Mockingjay-Part 1‘s $121.9M. The second film, Catching Fire, owns the opening record at $158.1M. Thursday stateside previews kick off tonight at 7PM. Ticket sales will also get a nudge from Imax and PLF. Fandango reported yesterday that advance ticket sales for the second part of the last Suzanne Collins’ novel are in sync with the first part’s at the same point in their sales cycle. From the Fandango poll, 74% indicated that they would see the final chapter with a group of friends.

It doesn't necessarily mean anything: we'll see during the WE

In dollars that means an OD that decreased by around 20%
