I don't get the whole product placement thing, why does it brother people so much?

It's bullshit ads that studios just do to make more money. (advertising $, not bo $)

It wasn't product placement, they just shot in existing stores and locations.

LOA wasn't demeaning to women at all.

That s not quite what I said but still, women in this movie have absolutely no impact. None. For such a legendary movie, I think that s a unique aspect of it.

My parents let me watch The Exorcist, Alien, and Predator when I was around 9.   The Exorcist scared the shit out of me and gave me nightmares, Alien scared me again and made me love scifi, and Predator made me a man.   Greatest parents ever.

I remember sitting with my mother one night and watching John Carpenter's The Thing, in the dark. I was probaly 8 or 9 years old. Scared the crap out of me! Took me forever to fall asleep that night. However, a few days later I re-watched it and I was perfectly fine. It's now one of my all time favorite movies.

It can be distracting and take you out of the movie.

It only takes me out of the movie when the movie stops to make a point that it is product placement, like saying "Popeye's Chicken is the shiznit", else it does not bother me too much

Yes, it's a movie about a man set almost entirely in an environment where women were flat-out hidden from all but their husbands. But it's not even that women in this movie have no impact, it's that there are *no* women in the movie.

Yeah that's why I said "can", most of the time it's fine. Sometimes it crosses the line like in Casino Royale and many other movies.

I treat Bay the same as everyone else. I just happen to think he is sn absolutely terrible filmmaker in virtually every respect, and as a result I often find his films terrible too.

But this view is pretty myopic... unless you're using "virtually" to escape the context of what you're saying. You don't get handed multiple tentpole movies -- and generate massive results -- without some aspect of talent in some area.
