My point was that right after that moving scene you get blah romance and then the poorly done strip club nonsense.

Watched this again last night when I got home from work.  It's Bay's best film imo, followed really closely by Transformers.  Everything about this film works for me and it's one of the best films of 1998.  That line still gets me every time....."That's not a salesman, that's your daddy."

16 years later and people still love this film. It's a classic, whether people agree or not lol. Also people can hate on Ben Affleck all they want but at no point did his ' bad acting' stop me from loving this film.

There are scenes in this I simply watched over and over again as a teenager... plus the soundtrack is quite good. It isn't a bad movie... quite entertaining if that is what you look for.

This is a fun enjoyable movie.

 

I am quite certain even today if this came out, it would have been a huge hit.

I really enjoyed this one at the time of it's release. I haven't watched it since except for a few scenes here and there. It's a bit sappy when I do see Liv Tyler. Great cast.

 

I prefer Independece Day over this. ID is one of my favorites.

I hated just about everything, but the editing in particular infuriated me, it's oh-my-fucking-god bad. Also, there isn't one single quiet moment in this pos, the overbearing score is always playing on the background and the camera doing some distracting and purposeless shit.

Armageddon is an easy 10 for me.  It's unquestionably one of the best blockbusters of all time.  The characters are what makes this so good, and of course Bay's touch.

Didn't you say in your review "once they're on the asteroid it stalls out"? That's the part Bay is talking about, not the ending that everyone loves, that everyone say it's emotional.

About Bay statement, it's weirdly reawarding that the film's own director thinks it's trash, it makes him more sympathetic in my eyes.

Eh, Bay seems to say it about every movie he makes so he presents himself as having improved, so his next movie will promise to be better.

Bay did not say the movie was bad. He said he wish he had more time in the editing room for that movie. The interviewer had initially twisted his words

You're right, I guess it depends on what you consider as the second act.
