That might have a little something do with now owning Marvel and Star Wars.

They tend to release fewer movies in general than other large studios.

I read somewhere that that will always be the plan: to focus on fewer movies. However, it's a risky thing especially if a movie they think will do well fails.

While watching the Disney bomb marathon, realized that both John Carter and The Sorceror's Apprentice have overt sequel beg endings. At least to Brad Bird's credit, Tomorrowland has a pretty much closed ending (which he could have built on for sequels if needed).

Saw SAN ANDREAS yesterday and surprisingly, I liked it. The movie is of course one big exaggeration but it made me wonder what if the big one happens here in my country? Just like what is said in the movie, it's not a matter of if but a matter of when. The last big quake made by a fault that runs through Manila was in the 1600s. We could get the next big one in our lifetime that's why the government has scheduled a metrowide post-earthquake drill on July 30th. It's going to be a simulation test from 3 pm - 8 pm. We won't have any communication, power among many things. Airports will be shutdown as well as businesses. The economic implications are being questioned by some groups but I think our country will lose more if we don't prepare for this. Have you had a similar drill before?

We're in the same boat in Victoria. Every 500 years or so there's a massive earthquake, the last of which occurred in 1,700. We're due any time in the next 200 years.

Lone Ranger and Prince of Persia also work as standalone movies.

To be fair, the Barsoom series has 11 John Carter books with A Princess Of Mars being the first

Don't get me wrong, Theron owns all and I'd love to see her come back (provided it feels natural), but considering the franchise's history and Theron's personal experience on set of FR it's much more likely she won't return.

Mad Max is much more loved and its sequel should see a nice increase. PR2 is pretty much only getting made because China.

Not necessarily. As we have seen from recent years seeing which sequels will increase or decrease now isn't a guarantee

"Disney bomb marathon?"  :D

The only bomb is, "Tomorrowland" while, "Cinderella," "Avengers: Age of Ultron," and "McFarland, USA" did or are doing fine.  Come, "Inside Out," "The Good Dinosaur," and "Star Wars," most if not everybody will forget that, "Tomorrowland" was Disney's misfire.

Or maybe we just think it's hilarious that they cast a white woman to play an Asian woman and didn't even bother to change her name?

Ugh...I hope this dreck bombs OS too

Saw San Andreas and thought it was pretty good, but a WHOLE LOT OF FUN! Yea, it has basically every disaster cliche in the book, but it was extremely entertaining (my mom absolutley loved it and maybe even cried...)

What I did notice is how they were able to keep the budget "low". For example, in 2012 (best disaster movie ever) they throw EVERYTHING on screen, and I really did feel like I was a character trying to survive the movie. Here, you're following a character rather than "being" one. In doing that, I felt like I missed a lot of the disaster, as if so much more happened that we didn't get to see. Not like Godzilla where the camera cuts away as soon as action starts because there is a TON of action here. But not at the same level as 2012.

If give it a B+ for people who like disaster movies (myself included), but if you know for a fact you don't like these types of movies, just don't see it.

It opened in Japan recently. Pitch Perfect 1 also opened there this weekend.
