Really impressed by some of the admissions numbers in this region, seems like its topping infinity war admissions in many here

This is Deadline's take:

Quote

That Doctor Strange is operating above pre-weekend projections is not a huge surprise, but it is being bolstered in part by strong numbers out of Latin America, which leans into horror and thus is embracing Raimi’s take on the sorcerer. To wit, Mexico ($11.6M) and Brazil ($7.7M) are through Friday the Nos. 3 and 4 overseas markets.

Jujutsu just a little above Demon Slayer is a little surprising to be honest, but I guess you can blame Mexico for that

Dragon Ball has been huge in Mexico for decades. Even an episode of the Simpsons (Thirty Minutes over Tokyo) made a reference to it in the dubbed version.

Here's a couple of related articles:

https://www.reddit.com/r/asklatinamerica/comments/kv79lb/whats_up_with_the_dragon_ball_z_obsession/

I think Jujutsu's release dates dropped in the middle of an Omicron wave.

@Purple Minion, how did Dragon Ball Super Broly went so big?

You should get a better picture from understanding how big overall Dragon Ball is in the region.

The concept  was quite interesting and easy to follow for younger generations back in the 90s and 00s. I think the fact that it was one of the first anime titles to arrive to the country along with Saint Seya was important but the fact that DB had a bit more of the heroic tone people were familiar with was the key.

Something else that was extremely important for its success at least in Spanish-speaking countries from the region was dubbing. Several actors who voiced characters from the series launched to fame only by their work in Dragon Ball. Both Simpsons and Dragon Ball marked a transition period for dubbing in many countries and turned voice actors into true celebrities.

Thanks for all of your response. I hope you all have enjoyed the movie (but) Tbh, I am feeling bad for Mexico, as in remaining regions, JJK gross was double to that of DS. [Though, in Mexico, it opened bigger than DS]

In LATAM, Next Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes will release on Early Summer by Sony. I guess another ±$30M happening in the region. And hopefully I expect Anime fanbase get a boost through Theatrical Release and Streaming Services. 🌼
