riczhang
Okay:2005-BP winner was under 100M2006-Over 100M2007-Under 100M2008-Over 100M2009-(way) under 100M2010-Over 100M2011-(Quite a bit) under 100MSo 2012 should be over ;)The every 3 years thing has been gone since Hurt Locker won (Where the highest grossing BP nominatioin wins BP)Stats are made to be broken. But going by this, we can probably rule of The Master (There's no way this gets to 100M), Argo (It could make it to 100M, but I don't see it), Beasts, Zero Dark Thirty, Django Unchained (Might reach 100M, might, very slim chance), and just about every other possible contender. Leaving the ones that have at least decent chance of 100M: Les Mis(I'll say over for now, but I honestly have no idea what this is going to do), Life of Pi(Benefit of the doubt), Hobbit (If it gets nominated, which is in and out of itself doubtful), and LIncoln. Not a very exciting field of possible winners.
Impact
Well when someone brought that up in 2010 someone mentioned that outside of True Grit, Inception, TS3 and a couple of other films that were not nominated it seemed unlikely. riczhang
Yeah they did say True Grit even if it did not have a major chance at the time.TKS was not considered a 100M film though.I always thought that TKS was gonna get close to if not over 100M a la Slumdog 2 years before that. It was British, well received, feel good, it practically had the exact same things going for it that Slumdog did.
Impact
In October 2010 it was not exactly being considered for 100M.

Gopher
Funny thing out of Venice today: The jury gave The Master the Golden Lion (best film), Best Director and a joint Best Actor (PSH/Phoenix) prize, but festival organizers thought that was overkill (because no movie has ever swept Venice like that) and gave Best Film to Pieta (runner-up). http://www.hitfix.com/in-contention/venice-awards-on-the-way

Impact
Wait it said so in the post...wait I'm confused it says the jury gave it to it and then the runner up???
CoolioD1
The jury wanted to give it the Gold Lion, but there's a rule that says films at the Venice fest can't win more than 2 awards so they gave it to the runner-up instead.
Impact
Okay that is odd.Anyway-way too soon to count our chickens ;)I think if it wins any major awards it will be actor. And for Amy Adams though it would be for 2 films for her. CoolioD1
Well ya shouldn't count it out because y'know... Weinsteins. Also Phillip Seymour Hoffman looks like a very strong contender as well since he tied Venice's Best Actor award with Pheonix. And he'll probably get pushed to supporting. Wouldn't be surprised to see the movie win for both performances.

It's not happened in Actor since 1984 for Amadeus, and for any lead category it's been since 1991 for Thelma and Louise. And, both those fiilms were a lot more accessible than The Master (Well, Thelma and Louise is debatable )
Impact
I would not be surprised by a pic/director split. It has been a while.Considering outside of The Master, it seems like all of the major contenders this year are directed by a Oscar winner.
