I read Wreck it Ralph could be nominated. That be so FUNNY!Then Bowser and Zangief be in a BP nominated film ;)

I've actually been thinking for a while that Wreck-It Ralph could get a BP nom. It has a good release date and Brave disappointed, so...

TDKR's response is somewhat polarized. I think there's still a chance it gets enough #1 votes. I don't predict it to happen but I don't think it's any less likely than a week ago.

If we want to talk about polarizing, look no further than Tree of Life.

It's got enough number one votes in the bag, enough people worked on the movie that are Academy members to get it the 30 votes it needs. Now, the problem is that we need to see if enough people ranked it second, and third on their ballots.

If TDKR's continues to get more negative reviews than TDK, and The Hobbit disappoints, then I say Avengers takes the token blockbuster nomination for the year. After all, every other movie that grossed 600m+ got a BP nomination :)

TDKR and Hobbit could receive nothing but the worst reviews and Avengers still wouldn't be nominated.

Current Predictions

Beasts Of The Southern Wild - A toast of Sundance & Cannes, this film's rave reviews should probably carry over to the Academy.

Moonrise Kingdom - Like Midnight In Paris, it's a comedy by a well liked director that managed to be a mini box office break-out. A nomination could be in store for it.

Anna Karenina - It looks good, but it just screams Oscar bait. P&P/Atonement Director + Famous Russian Novel = Academy Love

Les Miserables - An Academy Award winning director plus a beloved musical. This would probably have to suck in order to avoid a nomination.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Every other LOTR film got a nomination with just 5 nominees. With even more, this should have little difficulty.

Zero Dark Thirty - Like Les Mis, this film has a director who recently won an oscar, as well as a fresh December release. It should get in if it lives up to expectations.

Django Unchained - If It's as good as Basterds, Tarantino's newest flick is a safe bet.

Life Of Pi - Down to the same release weekend, this film could very well be the Hugo of 2012.

The Dark Knight Rises - I'm currently 50/50 on this. For now, I'll give it the nod, though.

The Master - PTA. [/reason]

My gut's telling me that Lincoln and Gatsby will dissapoint.

The Master- By far the favorite right now. Hopefully it ends up being more entertaining than TWBB because it looks great and has everything going for it.Les MisLife of PiHyde Park on HudsonDjango UnchainedMoonrise KingdomDark Knight Rises (Enough number one votes, judging by reviews)FlightArgoLincoln (just barely, ala War Horse)

It looks incredible but I'm not sold on anything above tech nods yet. Warners also has Great Gatsby, Argo and TDKR to push. Also, I think there's a great chance it'll been seen as too esoteric and shunned.I'd like to add that having seen TDKR, I don't think it has any shot at Picture or Director nods. It'll get the usual tech nods but I don't see it winning anything. Personally, I didn't think it was as visually accomplished as TDK.

Why the academy has no memory ???Too old ???They can't nominate a movie released before October to save their own lives ?Why is that ?I know the studios release their Oscar bait movies in October/November/December but still ....I am pretty sure Leo Di Cap would have been nominated for Shutter Island if the movie had been released in November....What about the Indie circuit ?There are always indie films that get nominated each year ...

Cloud Atlas trailer is phenomenal but release date doesn`t show confidence on WB part. That thing looks like a blockbuster, yet it`s out October 26. Weird. Perhaps they know something we don`t? I mena, everyone can cut a great trailer out of a visually arresting movie.

Wait, wait, who the hell has said that the Avengers could be nominated? LMFAO.

The Crone is super-paranoid that TA might happen due to boxoffice. I don`t know what other bloggers think it`s possible but I know she rants about it at least once a week.
