The Little Mermaid | Disney | May 26, 2023 | Queen Halle will rule the summer!

Remove Watson and kiss 1.2B goodbye. The movie would still make money but it was Emma Is Belle hype that created a perfect storm.

It's like Phoenix as Joker. Something about the casting struck the chord with audience and the rest is history (literally, first 1B R movie ever).

The U.K. Government will allow a number of film and television productions to be exempt from following quarantine rules and resume filming safely this summer.

The government announced the exemption Sunday in hopes of allowing production of international blockbusters to get underway. The exemption only applies to those traveling to England. Exempted individuals are set to live and work in controlled "bubbled" environments that will only include their production and accommodation locations.

Other major productions originally halted in the U.K. include: Matt Reeve's The Batman, the third Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them installment, Disney's The Little Mermaid and Sony's live-action musical adaptation of Cinderella

Emily Coates (Netflix's Cursed) joins, possibly as Vanessa.

Also filming is supposed to finally start in November/December (after being pushed back from summer so that McCarthy could shoot her Hulu limited series first).

I wonder where it is Disney plans on putting this since their summer (Thor, Lightyear, Black Panther, Indiana Jones) and holiday (The Marvels, Avatar, an animated movie) slates are almost filled next year. Maybe they'll go for the Memorial Day weekend spot that's worked out for them with Aladdin and Cruella and force Mission: Impossible to move elsewhere.

There is an untitled movie on Memorial Day next year. But these remakes usually come out two years after they are shot, so this will probably come out in 2023.
