Possible the top three next year are all Disney with Beauty and the Beast, Guardians Vol. 2 and Star Wars Episode VIII?

You might want to consider Fast 8, Despicable Me 3Spider-Man: Homecoming and possibly Justice League as spoilers for that club.

Spider-Man is the only one of those with a chance and it's super slim

Spider-man:Homecoming is very likely to put the Spider back atop the superhero rankings of filmdom where he should belong.

I'm starting to wonder if the love affair with the Fast franchise might be stalling out.

DM3, I see a solid decline coming. Fun but Toy Story it is not.

Justice League...on paper it should be, cautiously optimistic it's a $300m+ film

With ID-Resurgence coming out this weekend, will it or won't it have an effect on Central Intelligence going over $100M?

Nah likely, particularly since it's going for a slightly different crowd, especially since Resurgence is not a sophomoric comedy, unless you count it as being unintentionally hilarious.

It doesn't look like next summer has a potential JW/Dory kind of hit, at least not domestically.

I'd love for Wonder Woman to qualify as that type film. Type meaning, I know it's not doing $500m dom but $350m+ would elate me and I think qualify it as a break out hit since things are lukewarm on the DCCU at the moment.

If Wonder Woman does over $350M+, that's certainly a welcome surprise and definitely a break out.

In the midst of relatively uninspiring releases such as Pirates 5, Cars 3, Despicable me 3, and Transformers 5, it would be exciting to see such surprises next summer!

Expecting...

Episode VIII $750M+

Beauty and the Beast $450M+

Guardians Vol. 2 $400M+

I don't think Fast 8 matches Fast 7, 7 was the zeitgeist in my opinion. I don't expect Despicable Me 3 to match Despicable Me 2. And, I'm not certain Justice League will match BatSupes. But, even if it does and/or surpasses it DOM, I don't see over $400M. Spider-man is essentially Disney as well now, no? Either way, not seeing $400M+ for that either.

That is extremely optimistic for Beauty and The Beast.

And it's a highball estimate for Guardians vol 2 as well.

And even though it's probably going to be #1, that is a really high total for Star Wars VIII.

Even if Guardians and Beauty and the Beast do $350M+, I think that's enough to finish in the Top 3 DOM. Even if Episode VIII doesn't reach $750M+, it will easily win DOM 2017.

$350m dom isn't enough to guarantee a top 3 spot, though.

If I counted right there are 14 sequels this summer between May 1 thru Labor Day. Sixteen if you add in reboots Ghostbusters and Tarzan(surely meant to spawn sequels)

2017 would have only 11, even if you count S-M:H, Jumanji and Mummy films, being reboots/restarts, you still have less "sequel-itis" next year. That's something positive, right?? Right.

I think it is. But, as I said earlier, I'm expecting much more for both. Guardians, given it's still its own MCU entity in a way, will not suffer the fatigue of other MCU sequels, Beauty and the Beast has the making of the most anticipated Live Action adaptation of a beloved WDAS flick and Episode VIII follows a universally adored $925M+ DOM grosses.
