The 2 years immediately following the expanded field were really good. Then for some reason they introduced the "5% of #1 votes" criteria for nominations. A lot of blockbuster movies definitely get a lot of votes, but the 5% of #1 votes is a big obstacle to overcome.

That "what's in the magical briefcase" bit was the worst, mostly because he turned poor Octavia Spencer into a prop for three hours with that "keep your eyes on the case" nonsense.
