OS it'll be fine of course since they release it early but the July 12th spot might not be too good either and possibly face a big drop, The Lion King, if done right can open to $200M+.

It's going to drop from the first either way. They won't release it a week after Toy Story 4 either so they might have to suck it up and either release against Spider-Man or moving it to July 12th.

i'm not a fan of DM but comparing it to a PG-13 Michael Bay franchise seems really dumb to me. Maybe Shrek or Ice Age sure, but not Transformers

I'm not comparing the movies, I'm comparing their performances, and they've been pretty similar so far.

Or I can see them booting whatever SPA has planned on 7/26/19 or Spongebob 3 on 8/2/19. Opening against Spider-Man 2 will hurt both of them. Another scenario is they push a DWA film to back thinking Dragon 3 to Everest's spot and Everest goes to 2020.

Wonder Woman continues to shine in the legs department: the 4th best fifth weekend of all time for live action comic book films, and notably this is the first weekend that Wonder Woman has bested/outgrossed Spider-Man (2002).

Wonder Woman, with estimates, has already hit a 3.35 multiplier, and has nearly cracked the top 10 grossing comic book films of all time. It will pass Deadpool and Spider-Man 2 soon enough to sit at #9 of all time. And it remains to be seen if it can have great late legs to further pass GOTG Vol. 2 or to crack the $400 million mark. With 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' around the corner, I don't foresee this happening, however I know not to underestimate Wonder Woman! And this is a phenomenal run no matter what happens from here on out.

July 26th could work although a little late for an Illumination summer film.

I think SPA's summer 2019 film isn't happening so I could see that date being snapped up

Wow why are u predicting such an harsh drop for WW?! I hope it has a 6th weekend with $10 mllion rank.

He thinks suddenly everybody will agree with him that the movie isn't that good. He's been more wrong about WW every single day than Tele was about Michael Mann movies in China.

Homecoming 2 can also move to August 2. Another scenario is they decide to be bold and plan on Disney moving IX to December and take that Memorial Day weekend spot. Or they push back Dragon 3 to September and Pets 2 goes to March.

I don't see Sony moving Spider-Man, I reckon Mulan will get the Memorial Day 2019 slot if Disney moves Star Wars to December.

Mulan could easily go to that March 2019 spot. I can see Sony or Universal move SMHC2 or Pets 2 soon.

That would mean that Disney doesn't care about Mulan. That date is only a winner for Disney when a Pirates movie is being released.

Disney already has Captain Marvel for March 8th 2019 so it's unlikely.

Disney also has the spot in March 2019 too.

It's March 29th 2019 which is only three weeks and the two could coexist.

Does anyone here watched The Beguiled? I'm really curious to watch it, but it seems to be getting a cold response from audiences.

I liked it but I'm no casual.

RT Watch Update: It's a bit of a toss up right now between 'Baby Driver' and 'War for the Planet of the apes' for being the best reviewed film of the summer thus far. The new Spider-Man is also one of the best reviewed films of the summer thus far, and it remains to be seen how films like Dunkirk and Valerian will do with critics. They could both add to what could prove to be overall a very strong July for critical reception.

Despicable Me 3 is the worst reviewed film of the trilogy, and perhaps surprisingly sits somewhat worse than Cars 3 in terms of critical reception.

The House is one of the worst reviewed films of the summer, essentially on par with Transformers when it comes to having a terrible average rating.

2017 Summer Films RT Watch (Wide-Release — May/June/July/August)

  1. Baby Driver — 97% — 8.2 rating
  2. War for the Planet of the Apes — 96% — 8.3 rating
  3. Spider-Man: Homecoming — 92% — 7.6 rating
  4. Wonder Woman — 92% —  7.5 rating
  5. It Comes At Night — 86% — 7.4 rating
  6. Captain Underpants — 85% — 6.8 rating
  7. Megan Leavey — 82% — 6.7 rating
  8. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 — 81% — 7.1 rating
  9. Alien: Covenant — 71% — 6.4 rating
  10. Cars 3 — 67% — 6.1 rating
  11. Despicable Me 3 — 63% — 5.7 rating
  12. 47 Meters Down — 53% — 5.5 rating
  13. The Dinner — 51% — 5.6 rating
  14. Rough Night — 48% — 5.5 rating
  15. Everything, Everything — 48% — 5.5 rating
  16. Snatched — 36% — 5.1 rating
  17. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales — 29% — 4.7 rating
  18. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword — 28% — 4.6 rating
  19. Baywatch — 20% — 4.0 rating
  20. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul — 19% — 4.2 rating
  21. All Eyez on Me — 17% — 4.3 rating
  22. The House — 16% — 3.4 rating
  23. The Mummy — 15% — 4.2 rating
  24. Transformers: The Last Knight — 15% — 3.3 rating

(Last summer half of the 42 wide-release films tracked were “rotten” on RT, and only 10 of the films had an 80+%.)

Peace,

Mike
