SLAM!
The Lost City of Z, with three nominations from San Diego, has undeniably gained a smidge of traction. I'm beginning to think those Adapted Screenplay and Cinematography noms are possible. And while she has a bit of competition, Bria Vinaite would be an exciting nomination for sure. Probably not since they are a shameless joke of an organization that try their best to predict the Oscars and since The Force Awakens didn't get nominated, they won't repeat that with The Last Jedi. stripe
This is one of the most interesting Oscar races in years. Many of the categories are still wide open, without a clear frontrunner. Who will get BP? The post / Get Out / CMBYN? Hard to say. Director? Actress? Actor? Screenplays? Visual effects? Editing? Cinematography? Gorgeous year! 4815162342
Based on the precursors posted in this thread, this is how BP, BD, and the acting categories are shaping up Spoiler Best Picture The Florida Project- 2 (DFCS, SFFCC) Get Out- 2 (BOFCA, WAFCA) Call Me By Your Name- 1 (LAFCA) Lady Bird- 1 (NYFCC) Phantom Thread- 1 (BSFC) The Post- 1 (NBR) Best Director Paul Thomas Anderson- 2 (BOFCA, BSFC) Sean Baker- 2 (DFCS, NYFCC) Guillermo Del Toro- 2 (LAFCA, SFFCC) Greta Gerwig- 1 (NBR) Luca Guadagnino- 1 (LAFCA) Christopher Nolan- 1 (WAFCA) Best Actor Timothee Chalamet- 3 (BOFCA, LAFCA, NYFCC) James Franco- 1 (DFCS) Tom Hanks- 1 (NBR) Daniel Kaluuya- 1 (BSFC) Gary Oldman- 1 (WAFCA) Andy Serkis- 1 (SFFCC) Best Actress Frances McDormand- 3 (BOFCA, DFCS, WAFCA) Sally Hawkins- 2 (BSFC, LAFCA) Margot Robbie- 1 (SFFCC) Saoirse Ronan- 1 (NYFCC) Meryl Streep- 1 (NBR) Best Supporting Actor Willem Dafoe- 7 (BOFCA, BSFC, DFCS, LAFCA, NBR, NYFCC, SFFCC) Sam Rockwell- 1 (WAFCA) Best Supporting Actress Laurie Metcalf- 6 (BOFCA, BSFC, LAFCA, NBR, SFFCC, WAFCA) Tiffany Haddish- 1 (NYFCC) Allison Janney- 1 (DFCS) So Dafoe and Metcalf are far and away frontrunners. Chalamet may be threatening to do the same. BP, BD, and Actress are pretty knotted up. 1
WrathOfHan
I still think Metcalf is going to be a critics-only thing with Janney sweeping the televised shows. If Metcalf wins the Globes or SAG, I'll change my tune. Supporting Actor otoh is a muuuuuuuuuuch closer race.

Only person I can see challenging him is Rockwell, but I don't see any desire to finally give him an actual Oscar like Dafoe (and as much as I like Rockwell, I'd hesitate to say he's due for an Oscar. Nomination, definitely), plus you can probably already see the think pieces about the problematic nature of his Three Billboards character coming from miles away. The Florida Project feels like it's gaining momentum anyway, while Three Billboards feels like it's losing it.
