Hmm....having some trouble picking a 5th nominee for Original Score. My not being enamored with TLJ's score catches up with me.

if you like Giacchino (which I think you do), War and Coco are both top notch efforts by him this year

Cool. I didn't want to give it a Screenplay nomination considering how many Pixar tropes it uses, and it wasn't eligible much elsewhere!

Read the screenplay. It's actually very well-written.

Moreover, there are several things in animation people don't think about being eligible for other stuff. Also, putting I, Tonya above it in soundtrack is UNFORGIVABLE

(Also it has a damn great hero)

Coco has like two songs. I, Tonya has Fleetwood Mac. Kind of an easy choice there.

Coco has five songs that are actually used like a soundtrack, and I, Tonya uses the EXACT SAME FLEETWOOD MAC SONG FROM GUARDIANS 2, SO NOMINATE THAT INSTEAD.

(I liked I, Tonya relatively speaking but god, its soundtrack was way too obvious.)

I almost always wait for DVD to see Pixar films. So not likely.

Fair, but I thought you were a fellow who sometimes listened to scores out of context before a film. You're all good then

I don't. Also nominating a score without seeing the movie is bad form since how the score fits within the context of the film is important.

Shape of Water and The Last Jedi had the most complete scores of the year (haven’t listened to Phantom Thread).

A lot of other movies had solid scores but didn’t feel as complete as those two.

I agree entirely tbh; I just thought you, @ddddeeee, and the other particular fans of film scores here did that

I rarely listen to film scores out of context in general too

I hate how TLJ pretty much only reuses previous music. It's by far the weakest score in the series.

There’s some new stuff and it plays with a lot of the existing themes.  But if it weren’t for RO, id agree there.

Still, the worst score of the episodes is better than most scores out there.

Wish I could have seen Hostiles because I like Max Richter.
