I think it is more reserve the big budgets for the big franchises; if you wan to do less known franchise, do it on a modest budget.

I mean I have zero  clue what happened, the vfx was just my main observation from the 20 minutes I watched, not that it was the cause of its failure.

First failed MCU franchise unfortunately. (Hulk would have definitely got a sequel after Avengers if not for the rights issues).

It was only a matter of time before Marvel made a flop. It had to happen, the odds always catch up with you.
