There are two emperors here and they are both secondary characters. The main conflict here is between Lucius and Pascal's guy.

 

I rewatched the first film today (maybe for the first time since its release) and was shocked how remake-ish sequel looks. They even ended the trailer with double sword decapitation.

Yeah its not what i have read. In fact there are Youtube vids by people that have that extension which shows dislikes on YT vids and some of the trailers have double thumbs downs compared to thumbs up,

so we had a commercial for Gladiator before the England Spain final started in the UK.  
 

Pretty unheard of for a film trailer to play on television this far out over here.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this probably won't need to worry much about unfavorable Those About to Die comparisons based on initial reviews

So THR claimed it had 49 day shoot (before June reshoots), nowhere near 3-4 months some people insisted here. Ridiculous production length for a movie of this scale and budget, even for Ridley.
