Well:

1. I thought it was the best one of the series so far although a lot of that is because it built on the threads left by the second one (which I wasn’t fussed by)

2. yep there’s quite a lot of adventure all the way through it. Pacing was reasonably good with a clear set piece/action sequence followed by a bit of exposition.

3. plot follows on from the second one in a number of ways. It shows how queenie is now she’s defected. It also goes more into the obscura/credence story of the last one (which I had actually forgotten about when watching). But not by a lot. Just for the emotional connection to dumbledor.

The general plot setting is the magical version of the rise of the nazis in 1930s Germany. It’s actually more political than you’d expect and revolves around the election/choosing process of the chancellor of magic (which involves a fantastic beast and a plot by grindelwald to manipulate said process). Dumbledor tries to prevent this but is unable to act directly having previously made an unbreakable vow hence him setting up the heist like plan to indirectly address it.

Action bits that were good included Jacob preventing a woman being abused outside his shop, the official dinner scene, the opening poaching scene, all bits involving the creature in the underground prison which dislikes light (this’ll scare the kids!), the final heist/action scenes leading to the finale bits in a mountain temple (maybe Tibet but can’t remember) which was the setting for the election win.

I think overall it’s orientated towards people who grew up with potter rather than kids today. Hence the political nature of deciding the new chancellor of magic rather than saying ruling the world which kids would get easier.

4) not sure what you mean by Brazil? I don’t remember any scenes in Brazil. If you meant where I saw it. It was London. I suspect the version I saw won’t change much apart from finishing off special effects. There weren’t any bits that seemed unduly there or that should be cut for pacing for me.

I'm glad to hear that!! When I read other reactions, it seemed so boring, but after reading that, it seems a good movie .. it's great you liked it more than the first one!!

I know you can't say much, but I already about that information involving Credance's identity, and I really hated that.. do you think there is a chance it was edited on the test screening in order to prevent leaks? I was hoping it would be different in the final cut

About Brazil, it seems Rio de Janeiro won't be in the movie really

Nope I don’t think so. As it’s used in the final conclusions a lot (not just as a reveal but to resolve the main story arc).

I personally didn’t mind it. Although it might be because I thought it had been revealed in the second one already!

Just going off of the answers you received from the reddit guy I also believe that this third movie will be a good improvement over the 2nd, but it also seems like some of the issues that were in the previous movies are unfortunately also in this one such as mixing the magical creature stuff with the grimdark magic politics. But still, I think it will do alright.

But if the reactions from the screening were not good, I just had the hope they had more content they didn't include in it, and that maybe this would be a sign the movie could be better than what was screened 

 

So, when I knew there was a second screening that had Rio, I had even more hope on that..  but we won't have Rio, so the "second screening" was a lie

Eh, idk it stills feels kinda contrived to me, I'd rather the beasts and politics not mix too closely. It also still feels contrived having Newt be involved in this Dumbledore and Grindelwald conflict, they've not done a good job showing whats his personal stake in that conflict beyond him tangentially knowing Dumbledore. Is Dumbledore even paying him?

And not just internal Wizarding World politics.If you set a film in 1939, there is no freaking way you can avoid what is happening i the normal world not impacting what is happening in the Wizarding World. And not that Rowling has been reluctant to use the Potterverse to make social comments..it's no coincidence that the Wizarding World government after Voldemor takes over is full of thinly veiled references to Nazi Germany.....I can't see her ignoring World War 2 starting.

But I agree it has to be carefully handled.

I don't think this film is taking place in 1939. The last film took place in 1928 so I imagine this film will take place only a couple of years later, like around 1932 is my rough guess. And tbh I'm not really down with this series going into world war 2, especially when the title of the series is Fantastic Beasts, just doesn't really mesh well to me.

I'll say this, though...and focusing on the topic itself solely.

 

Rowling had every right to explode and get aggravated when people claimed she was queer-baiting when Yates said Dumbledore's sexuality was "not explicitly" stated in the second film. Even though it was far more explicit than people expected. She expressed there were more films...and she was right.

 

I don't care if it's a spoiler, but

Dumbledore and Grindelwald both explicitly say they were in love.

I'm sorry...this might be one of my most important posts here...I truly do love Rowling.

 

Rowling was a place of safety for me growing up, but recently, I have to realize that there are trans people who suffered immensely because of her words...

 

I try to be a good person, and I TRULY believe Rowling is and that the transgender issue has been significantly misinformed...but I need to say that if anyone has been hurt, then I am sorry.

 

Please forgive me...but she has been a place of home for me.
