mario admissions

Saw this on reddit. Since this is coming from Nintendo themselves, this is as close to an actual as is possible. Mario sold 168.1m tickets on a box office of $1.349b for a global ATP of $8.02.

Came here literally to post this.  Note that Nintendo says this estimate comes from Universal Pictures.

Related - Avengers: Endgame sold ~34.7M admissions on opening weekend (according to u/AgentCooper315), which is the highest of all time. Will this record ever get broken? That would require like a ~$450M+ weekend or something now 💀

I have the number closer to 33.5M but no, it'll never be broken. No other film has been within 10M of that number.

You're forgetting about Avatar 5

Avatar 5 will open well under Avatar 2 IMO.

I wonder how many admissions Avatar 2 did on OW

And unrelated but it's also kinda sad how GOTG 3 OW admissions are roughly equal to GOTG 1 and ~65% of GOTG 2. And in total admissions it's only ~85% of GOTG 1 and ~75% of GOTG 2. :sadfleck:

I am the Oracle. I can answer any question you ask

Why is Star Wars: The Last Jedi considered an underperformance domestically but not Avatar: The Way of Water even though both dropped around 35% in admissions from their predecessor?

Any question but that

People overseas actually care about Avatar.

Random nobody on Reddit has thoughts I don't care about. Good to know.

I mean, that but literally not sarcastically. This is more "random guy who clearly has spent time with this type of stuff has a good faith stab at an estimate"  than "I saw a guy in the comment section spitting out a hot take" (even if both are "I saw on reddit" things).

To me at least, I'd say he meets the bar of minimal viability to want to understand differences between random people on internet with estimates but also not trying to argue you'd be compelled to. I might poke around to see what's causing the difference.

I got a lot of admissions figures from u/AgentCooper315 on Reddit, here's them ranked:

Force Awakens - 90M

Phantom Menace - 86M

Endgame - 83.5M

No Way Home - 70M

Black Panther - 69M

Jurassic World - 66M

Infinity War - 65M

Avengers 1 - 65M

Incredibles 2: 64M

ROTS - 60M

Barbie - 59.5M

Last Jedi - 59M

Finding Nemo - 57M

Finding Dory: 55M

AOTC - 53M

Rogue One - 52M

Avatar 2 - 48M

TROS - 48M

Toy Story 2: 49M

Toy Story 4: 47M

Age of Ultron - 47M

Monsters Inc: 46M

Toy Story 1: 45M

Toy Story 3: 45M

Iron Man 1 - 44M

Iron Man 3 - 43M

Captain Marvel - 43M

The Incredibles 1: 43M

Civil War - 42M

Wonder Woman - 42M

Far From Home: 41M

Fallen Kingdom - 40M

Inside Out: 40M

Iron Man 2: 39M

GOTG2: 39M

Wakanda Forever: 37.5M

Multiverse of Madness: 36.5M

ATSV - 36M

GOTG1: 36M

Joker - 34.5M

Batman v Superman - 34M

Suicide Squad - 33.5M

Aquaman - 33M

The Batman - 33M

Dominion - 33M

Man of Steel - 31M

GOTG3: 30.5M

Some hard pills to swallow are

1) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sold 15% less admissions than the FIRST one

2) Avatar 2's admissions number is actually quite underwhelming.

3) Jurassic World Dominion sold about HALF as many tickets as Jurassic World

4) Iron Man 1 sold more tickets than Iron Man 3 (seriously how?!?!?)

5) Wakanda Forever dropped 47% from the first movie's tickets
