UK Box Office Thread

Recommended Posts

I think our expectations were tempered since Cannes, therefore we don't look at it as a bad start. It is decent, but when you think about it, it's INDIANA JONES and we are looking at an opening in line with CREED 3 and JOHN WICK 4. It could have been much more had the film been great. Also, it's going to get crashed the upcoming weeks, so won't have a leggy run.

Indiana Jones was the widest release so far this year, but opened to less than half of the previous film (£12.2m vs £5.4m).

Spider Verse, No Hard Feelings, Asteroid City, The Little Mermaid & The Boogeyman all dropped less than -30%. That’s excellent, especially for the two films in their second weekends.

Both Spiderverse and TLM have had great runs here.

Compared to most markets Indiana Jones did okay.

Will be interesting to see how Elemental performs given it’s turning into a big of a leggy beast in some markets. Probably a soft opening, but with good legs as schools break up for summer.

Is the Wimbledon tourney typically an audience sucking thing in the UK or is it more of a niche thing?

I wouldn’t call it niche, but it won’t affect box office. The only sport to really have that power is football, and even then it’s only really if England make it to the quarter/semi finals in the World Cup/Euros.

@Krissykins How big of an effect ca. that have on U.K. box office

It’s a small chain, for now they’re closing 6 sites.

That chain isn't particularly big, and most of their sites aren't in particularly big markets. It's still a shame though, and disappointing for sure

Yeh I’ve actually never been to one, think there is one somewhere in Glasgow.

I don’t think it usually has much of an impact. My brother is travelling there today though to see some matches. He loves Wimbledon, this will be his 5th time.

Going to Cineworlds secret screening tonight. Both 19.30 showings are sold out.

Personally hoping it’s Joy Ride, Talk To Me or Strays. But I have a feeling with how busy it is, people are (stupidly) expecting Barbie lol.
