Neither is applicable here because the actress is clearly not the thing people don't like about the movie. Why blame Kamala for the Avengers game and not literally any of the other many characters in it other than her?

Absolutely true but in fairness, some of these reviews feel like they're overrating it because the blood's been in the water for about a month now. I think it balances out in the end. The film's fun, but not good. Might have saved it in another bygone era of Marvel. Not going to save it now.

I'm sure the 0 out of 4 reviews are exaggerating but so are places like IGN which has given every single Marvel movie a 7 and above. Every single MCU film. That's just ridiculous.

I think she should absolutely get a season 2 of her show but if the character is not working they can't afford the dead weight.

I'm having a very hard time believing the movie is that bad. Similar to with Eternals. And Chloe Zhao was a more experienced and even higher scoring filmmaker prior to working with Marvel. She directed 3 films, and got 3 90+ critic scores. Then she goes to marvel and the critics just unload on her for what was a pretty good film? Eternals did not deserve a 47, something was weird about the zeitgeist. And I similarly find it hard to believe Nia would go from making strong films to something that's worth little more than a rat's ass.

I can buy a 7 or even 8 to be more genuine than a 0. Like, I do think this is true to a degree, but jesus. 0 should not even be a score.

LOL in my social media feed I saw the post credit scene(or last scene of the movie) leaked !!! Video was of good quality. These days phones are really good at capturing this.

Didn't Nia complain she's essentially a passenger here and it's Kevin Fiege's movie? Plus all those reshoots and re-editing.

Had decent legs, made over a billion, and has a 77% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

I can't speak on The Marvels because I haven't seen it but Eternals was not pretty good to me. It was at best aggressively mediocre.

It was not a big film. It cost less than 1 million to produce (not sure exactly how much).
Compare that to James Gunn's second film 'Super', which cost 2.5 million, and had ~500k box office. This seems fairly comparable.

the real 8/10 ign review has 

The Marvels really does go higher, further, faster baby. 

the real empire review which metacritic interprets as an 8/10 has

none of those terms

I should point out that Captain Marvel was one of the worst films I've ever seen, in my opinion. I just don't see it any worse than some of Marvel's other movies (such as Iron Man 3, Thor, etc)
