Don't think Hanks is getting in. Like with Captain Philips, the supporting actor will get nominated.

filmlover
I think Oldman is as as anyone safe for a nomination (unless Mank were to end up in the yellow on MC or Rotten on RT) since he's a recent winner and it's exactly the kind of movie that would result in an afterglow nomination. He won't win, though.

filmlover
Haven't checked out Mank or Ma Rainey yet but I watched Sound of Metal over the weekend and am really crossing my fingers that Riz Ahmed pulls through with a nomination. Easily my favorite performance of the year.
lorddemaxus
Seems like Riz Ahmed will be the critics passion nominee this year, not Yeun.

Driver last year, Hawke the year before (didn't get nominated tho), Chalamet the year before that. Yeun didn't even make it into Indiewire's critics poll's top 10 this year. Ahmed on the other hand (like the other three actors mentioned) was 1st.
filmlover
Ahmed is also a more high-profile actor in the industry in general. Broke out in Nightcrawler six years ago and has remained ubiquitous since, picking up nominations for Golden Globes and Emmys - and winning the latter - along the way. It's only a matter of time until his Oscar breakthrough happens, and he certainly has the performance to back it up. The nomination will be his reward though: winner is gonna come down to Boseman or Hopkins IMO.
lorddemaxus
Not regarding this next year's race but Paul Walter Hauser was seriously snubbed for Richard Jewell this year. Just watched movie (which in general should've been a major Oscar contender imo) and his performance moved me to tears. Definitely deserved the nom over Pryce.
lorddemaxus
Hearing a lot more praise for Lakeith than I expected (more than even Kaluuya is getting in the film). I wonder if he could kick Oldman, who I think is now the least likely to get nominated out of the 5 most likely (Hopkins, Boseman, Ahmed, Lindo, and Oldman), out of the race. He has the age factor going against him tho I guess. Edited December 30, 2020 by lorddemaxus
