October 20th was when it was originally scheduled. They moved it so it could presumably have more time in post.

I was talking about how the Marvels could have been moved originally to 10/20, not Dune Part 2.

CNBC article about a potential delay in Dune Part 2’s release date.

Not really any new info, but interesting to see some industry insiders give insight on the pros and cons in pushing back the release date.

Yeah it’s sort of a nothing article. “The strikes might end soon, or maybe not, it might move, it might not, here’s why it should, here’s why it shouldn’t, etc”

Seems like they just chose Dune as their subject because it’s the first major blockbuster of the holiday season.

Im still bullish on the strike not being over for quite a while. Early mid October at earliest, Thanksgiving ish at latest. Especially since SAG won't even begin talks till after WGAs strike ends, and the SAG strike would be the thing holding up current releases, not the WGA

Zendaya — who has a huge reach on social media — also stars in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming event pic Dune: Part 2, which, as of now, is still set to open Nov. 3 in North America timed to its global rollout. But that could easily change since Legendary is said to be insistent on a full press tour by the cast, which also includes Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler.

Legendary and studio partner Warner Bros. will need to make a decision soon regarding Dune 2, since the marketing and publicity campaign needs to ramp up in earnest by early September.

Like Zendaya had been, Chalamet is on double duty this year. In addition to Dune 2, he plays the lead in Warner Bros.’ Christmas tentpole Wonka. Insiders say Warners and other studios are loathe to push back movies wholesale considering theatrical is still in the midst of recovering from the pandemic, which leveled the box office. At the same time, there is no denying the risk of staying the course if the strikes aren’t resolved. (Barbie and Oppenheimer, which have been a boon for moviegoing, were all but done with their publicity campaigns before SAG-AFTRA went on strike.)

Tell that to Halloween Ends.

Dune made $400m WW when released day and date on a service with 3x as many subscribers as Peacock does. FNAF is a breakout hit movie that can be seen coming from a mile away, unless you're just willfully ignorant.

Completely different circumstances, for a number of reasons, a big one being Dune has way, way, way more star power than Josh Hutcherson. And as great as Matthew Lillard is...he isn't a draw. Dune just isn't comparable.

If it really were such an obvious smash hit, then it wouldn't be a hybrid. Dune was a hybrid because of COVID. FNAF will probably do well relative to it's sub 30 mil budget, like most Blumhouse movies, but that doesn't mean it's gonna be some breakout blockbuster smash.

I reached the "acceptance" stage (if we want to call it that heh) that this would be delayed a while back as the rumors of this being headed to 2024 have been building cause where there's smoke there's fire, it's just a question of when the announcement will be (could be this week ahead of National Cinema Day next Sunday, could be the Friday before Labor Day as a "have a nice long weekend bye" news drop) and where they'll move it to (summer has been the obvious rumor but imagine if they decided to sit on it for an entire year and hold it for November 2024 ala the early days of the pandemic).

I long thought this wasn't going to be delayed, but at this point all the noise and leaked buzz makes me believe it will be by the end of the week :(

What leaked buzz? I haven’t seen any serious developments.
