One thing is for sure... "Boring" is not a word that could be used to describe the pre-sale run here in Sacto.  Of course, neither could "representative" or "accurate", but I'll take "not boring" over a few other scenarios that come to mind.  Even without the 75 tickets sold at two showings (50 and 25 tickets respectively, which were obviously group sales), it still did strong up and down the region.

I've long given up any idea of Sacto pointing to an accurate comp at the end of the day, unless I use the most ridiculous of CBM comps, and even that is looking pretty darn shaky right now.

No... Now I'm just along for the ride, seeing where exactly this ends up locally.

PS:  Finally kicked the F9 comp to the curb.  Those group sales today were the final dagger/nail in the coffin.

In India

Quote

'Top Gun: Maverick', which is the long-awaited sequel of the 1986 hit action drama, has seen slow sales so far as it is only riding on Tom's popularity in the country

Quote

Meanwhile, 'Jurassic World' has just opened up its ticket windows. The film is expected to have better chances than 'Top Gun', owing to the popularity of the dinosaur franchise. The film should show good advances before release as tickets are reportedly flying out.

Massive Film Marketing Spends Are Back As Summer Tentpole Season Kicks Off – The Hollywood Reporter

Quote

The marquee will get increasingly crowded in the coming weeks, beginning with Paramount/Skydance’s Top Gun: Maverick (May 27). That’s followed by Universal’s Jurassic World Dominion (June 10); Pixar/Disney’s first Toy Story spinoff, Lightyear (June 17); Universal’s Minions: The Rise of Gru (July 1); and Marvel/Disney’s Thor: Love and Thunder (July 8). Don’t be surprised if studios set aside $150 million or more on global marketing spend for the biggest titles. While not technically tentpoles, such summer event films as Warner Bros.’ Elvis (June 24), Universal’s Nope (July 22) and Sony’s Bullet Train (July 29) likely will have sizeable global marketing budgets of $75 million or more.

No time for a full run today so just the closer movies.  There was an error in the comps for DA EA yesterday, it has been fixed above.

Downton is selling really well, but is only averaging about 1.5 shows per theater nationally for previews.  Most of the theaters in my tracking only have one show for some reason.

Neither have most theater owners, probably, b/c I've never seen a preview in theater, even with all the family movies I've seen this year.

That said, I see a lot of them booking it this week as a hail mary for content for families...
