Poland Box Office | Avatar: The Way of Water is HUGE

That looks like a great weekend for the cinemas. And it had good, warm weather.

Sluzby did what we expected which is really good. I think that 500k shouldn't be a problem after such opening unless it has terrible WOM, which I didn't see so far.

Maya holding well is a good sign for the distributor after opening weekend.

It's a smart date for Maya. The target group here is a bit too young for big results since it's more of a pre school movie but there is nothing interesting in animation for 2 months (Boxtrolls and Pinocchio will probably fail.)

Służby has very good reservations for Sroda z orange so I think the WOM is good.

Weekend numbers ( 3-5 October 2014 )

  1. Miasto 44                                     146 954 / 1 039 908
  2. Sluzby Specjalne                           105 870 / 106 030 (New)
  3. Maya the Bee Movie                       54 062 / 144 908
  4. Annabelle                                      48 327 / 48 327 (New)
  5. A Walk Among the Tombstones       22 429 / 22 429 (New)
  6. The Maze Runner                           17 646 / 146 433
  7. The Equalizer                                16 275 / 76 583
  8. Les vacances du Petit Nicolas           13 284 / 543 530
  9. The One I Love                              5 902 / 5 902 (New)
  10. Before I Go To Sleep                       5 147 / 118 793

Miasto 44 - good hold in it's 3rd weekend. It should be number one movie of the year at the time I'm writing this. If next weekend won't bring a big drop then I think it will have a go at 2 milion admissions.

Sluzby Specjalne - really good start and with not bad WOM it can do something more then 500k admissions. Depends how it will hold against Bogowie and Gone Girl this weekend.

Maya -  great hold ( or rather rise ). Like Norbar mentioned it has a open road to get kids attention for upcoming weeks. 400k-500k is probable.

Annabelle - that is suprisingly big opening for a horror movie. Not many horrors manage to open this well. Should easily pass 200k admissions.

As for the rest: Petit Nicolas held well and should pass 600k in the end, The Equalizer had a big drop, TMR didn't do well and Liam Neeson didn't get to many people in the seats.

This weekend was 9th biggest of the year when it comes to attendence. Upcoming weekend looks big with Bogowie and Gone Girl opening.

My Top 5 prediction for upcoming weekend

1. Bogowie                  140k admissions

2. Miasto 44                105k admissions

3. Sluzby Specjalne      72k admissions

4. Gone Girl                  55k admissions

5. Maya                         40k admissions

Well my predictions for Bogowie was one big underestimation :D

Bogowie had 216 478 admissions during opening weekend and with previews they are at 264 863 admissions. Looks like another member  might join the "1 million admissions club" this year :D Fantastic :cloud9:

Yeah Same here. I've seen the reservations on friday and I knew it was going to be big. Miasto and Służby both dropped by the same % (low 40s, can't remember). I say it may beat Miasto and get 2mil

Gone girl went for 43 or 42k if I remember right.

Low 40's for Miasto and Sluzby? So that would be around 85-90k admission for Miasto and around 60-65k admissions for Sluzby.

That was a huge weekend for cinemas. Looks like a weekend in January-February movie season. That must have been easily 500k+ tickets weekend.

EDIT: Miasto 44 had 1.24 milion admissions before weekend so it should be at 1.32 milion admissions after the weekend. It's now the biggest movie of the year in admissions.

The weekend was closer to 600k if I remember right. Also 7 titled are above 30k viewers. Surprisingly Boxtrolls are at 32k. Maya is at 37k. Anabelle had a decent hold. People went back to cinemas. Strange in such a warm weekend.

  3. Sluzby Specjalne                            61 393 / 246 060

  10. Les vacances du Petit Nicolas           7 950 / 558 973

Overall weekend attendence - 575.5k tickets sold. ( 6th biggest weekend of the year )

Top 10 weekends of 2014 ( so far )

1. Weekend 7 (14-16 February) - 831 937 admissions.
2. Weekend 3. (17-19 January) - 713 821 admissions
3. Weekend 6. (07-09 February) - 696 585 admissions
4. Weekend 1. (03-05 January) - 602 399 admissions
5. Weekend 2. (10-12 February) - 594 543 admissions

6. Weekend 41. (10-12 October) - 575 500 admissions

8. Weekend 5. (31Jan-02Feb) - 501 239 admissions
9. Weekend 22. (30May-01June) - 485 579 admissions
10. Weekend 40. (03-05 October) - 466 457 admissions

Bogowie - great opening above every prediction that I saw. WOM is very good and passing 1 million admissions shouldn't be a problem. Next weekend could see a small drop because of WOM and poor weather.

Miasto 44 - bigger drop then expected but still doing really good. 2 million admissions are still possible.

Sluzby Specjalne - also bigger drop then expected. Overall the movie is doing well but 500k is probably max it will do.

Gone Girl - not bad, but not good either. 200k maybe at best.

Annabelle - ridiculous hold! -13% drop for a horror movie, you've got to be kidding me.

Maya and Boxtrolls - both did rather well this weekend.

Bogowie had almost 252k admissions during second weekend! That's almost 20% up from it's openinig weekend!

After 10 days it's already at 745k admissions and it looks like 2+ milion admissions is now very possible. Who would have thought that it could challenge Miasto 44 for the top spot in Polish Box Office.

It's possible but Listy do M had no competition for like 1.5 month. Bogowie will have to face Interstellar, Hunger Games and few polish movies. All Saints weekend will be significant for Bogowie. If it will managed to drop less then 60% on that weekend and they rebound on next weekend with a good rise then it should have a great run ( 2M+ ). WOM is fantastic and even my grandma wants to see it ( last time she went to cinema was like 20 years ago )

If you mention Hunger games then listy do M faced Twilight plus a smaller polish movie (80 milionów which will prbably do similar results to Obywatel). I know the other movies are stronger this year and that is why I see it at 2m not 2.5m but it should stay in cinemas for a loooong time.

October is HUGE this year. Usually it's not that good but this year all October weekends are in top 10 biggest weekends of the year ( at this time ). Upcoming weekend should be big too with Fury opening.

Bogowie - it went up 15% from it's big opening weekend and it's on track to pass 2 milion admissions. It has huge weekends, it has huge weekdays and only thing that can stop it is 4th weekend when it will have to face  All Saints holiday ( when people travel around the country to give respect to their dead family members ) which is terrible for movies when it happens on weekend.

Dracula Untold - that's a suprise. I didn't know we had so many Dracula fans in Poland that it would open so well. It will probably drop fast in upcoming weeks ( based on rather weak WOM ) but it should pass 200k admissions, which more then anyone expected for this movie.

Miasto 44 - another big drop and I think that 2M admissions is not happening anymore. Looks like Bogowie has taken the crowd from this movie. This might actually end number 3 of the year behind Bogowie and Hobbit 3. That would be a big suprise.

Sluzby Specjalne - good hold. Looks like this might still pass 500k admissions after all.

Gone Girl - great hold. If it would manage to keep those holds in upcoming weeks then there is still a chance for good result.

Pinocchio, Boxtrolls, Maya - they are fighting for the same crowd and they aren't doing well. Looks like kids and their parents are waiting for Big 6 to open.

Annabelle - big drop after last weekends performance but still just 50% down from opening weekend is really good for a horror movie. Should do well in upcoming day thanks to Halloween.

The Best of Me - poor opening and it will drop like a rock because of poor WOM.
