You underestimated who releases Obywatel. It's a movie from Next film and they are owned by agora. A company owning Helios cinema chain, ams billboards, their own tv station, big horizontal web portal and a ton of prints. They didn't need to work hard on PR, they just printed what they wanted, where they wanted.

 

I predicted around 60k similar to Pokłosie since the movie is very anti polish and I thought the negative audience for it will be bigger. Though that means we underestimated how Poles like to complain

 

Bella did better than I hoped but the movie is awesome. If you cried at free willy you will cry here. It's a very similar movie and it's very touching. 

 

Pinnocchio still running really shows parents don't care what their kids see in cinemas. 

 

 

 

 

btw. I'm wondering how high Dumb and Dumber to will do next week. On one side there are many people who remember the first one fondly but on the other hand the negative audience of people who hate it is huge. It could go as high as 80k opening but it could also fail in a spectacular fashion.

Sorry for that lack of update but I was so busy that I couldn't find time to make last weekends chart.

 

Everything should be back to normal from now, so wait for this weekend chart because it's pretty much "Summer Season" of Polish Box Office when it comes to box office numbers.

 

Looks like Hobbit 3 will make some crazy big numbers during Christmas- Epiphany Holiday season.

As for Boxoffice.pl they weren't interested in sharing numbers with normal people. They only are interested in business and insiders.

What is 30% higher? The Polish Box Office Market or only this week compared with the same week in 2013?

 

+30% in 2014 over 2013 would be absolutely huge, this market has the potential to reach a similar size to Spain, not huge but that would be enough to interest movie producers.

according to your source chimpo Sfp Magazyn there is more than 60 % increase in admission vs 2013 year even without November and December. it's impossible I think but it looks like ;p

Poland brought in a strong $5.3 million form 699 screens (including previews). Accoding to BOM is $0.88 M lower than DOS (6,180,608 with previews)

As for SFP Magazyn they are posting BoxOffice.pl numbers.

 

And as for Hobbit 3 I think the difference might be from currency exchange. $ is almost 20% stronger then Zloty compared to Hobbit 2 release. Admissions could be similar to Hobbit 2 or even better knowing that International reports always underestimate Polish Box Office numbers.

Hobbit 3 opening numbers

 

3day weekend - 693 563 admissions and 15 247 302 PLN

4day opening ( plus some earlier previews ) - 876 262 admissions and 19 165 612 PLN ( that's around 5.4 milion $ )

 

3day numbers put it on second place in all time openings behind Shrek 3 which had 793 753 admissions on just 136 copies.

 

It should be pass 1 milion admissions today or tomorrow.

Happy New Year

 

Let's start with last weekend of 2014 and it's a record breaking one. Hobbit 3 became the biggest opening of all time in PLN and we had a biggest weekend of all time in revenue.

 

First of all let's start with weekend total in admissions.

 

It's a second time in history that we had over 1 million admissions during a weekend. Christmas weekend had 1,014,145 tickets sold. The biggest weekend so far was in November 2011 and back then 1,123 milion tickets were sold but that was a special weekend when all ticket prices in 2 biggest cinema chains were only 11 PLN ( and not normal 23-32 PLN like last weekend )

 

Second of all September-December period was just gigantic in Box Office. After terrible Summer it was expected that yearly admissions might have problem reaching 2013 numbers but right now it looks that we might have a record year with over 40 milion tickets sold. ( More numbers should come in upcoming week or two )

 

Third thing that is worth mentioning that Hobbit 3 day weekend was 2nd biggest weekend of all time in admissions. Incredible how big LOTR franchise is in Poland. I wonder what will Star Wars do next year?
