Kat resenting never getting recognition from her peers to her self-made and long-lasting career was an interesting character trait that didn't get better explored as it should. When Bastian gets back into her life because their duet finally got her nominated for a Grammy, she doesn't question whether it was worth putting aside her hurt feelings and perform with him for a chance of getting the award she always wanted.

That should have been the point of contention between Kat and Owen Wilson, and she should have to choose between the respect of the music industry and the respect of her lover. But the movie is too coward to show JLo conflicted about shallow aspects of the celebrity life, instead opting to paint Kat as a flawless, always forgiving person, which only makes her an empty and unrelatable character.

The plot is absurd (even for a romcom) and there's zero surprises to be found, but this offers a pleasant little throwback to the kind of movie that used to be a major multiplex attraction that makes for an acceptable streaming (or date night at the movies, if that's what you would prefer) option for Valentine's Day. Benefits immensely from solid performances/chemistry between Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson. B-
