The owner of insidekino.de said in his forum that FOX reported $5.6 M last weekend and the actuals were only $4.2 M. Maybe they're overestimating again.

Preliminary numbers have IA5 at 285k for the weekend, that would be a 36% drop ... a bit better than feared but still bad; less than 900k total after the 2nd weekend - who would have thought that?

Its animal theme seems similar to the Madagascar stuff which mostly did well, though Penguins didn't reach 2mil admissions. The DespicableMe movies were big hits, too.

Three releases with more than 100k admissions … that's better than last week where we had only two, but admissions took a further dive so we're in fact about 25% down from last week's already disappointing weekend. Ugh.

 

Next weekend: Independence Day 2 should breathe some life into the near-dead market with hopefully somewhere near 700k admissions, and as counter-program we have Streetdance: New York, the 3rd entry in the series might open to somewhere around 75k admissions.

Independence Day starts in 744 cinemas - they seem to have faith in that movie. 500k to 600k should be rather good, 700k to 800k would be a great result. I have faith

I didn't expect TFA to top 9mio adm in its first run, at all. I'm still hoping that future re-releases can push it to the top of the decade.

But it's sad that only one Hobbit is in the Top 10, they really underperformed...

(But those movies didn't want to be as good as the Hobbit Movies should have been)

Open Air Season has started. Tommorow there is a screening here in Hamburg, so it shoiuld reach that milestone this weekend. Too bad I have other plans and can't go.
