An ok weekend with good holds and ok openings - The Whale with a fine PTA though last week's Roter Himmel even had a better one. Evil Dead Rise opened within expectations, but seemed a little frontloaded. And Mario Bros. continued its dominance, will probably miss 6mil total but 5,5 are looking good.

In Austria, similar numbers for the Top3 (Mario Bros. and Evil Dead even stronger); but The Whale opened much higher (>6k for the 3day weekend compared to Germany's 30k for the 4dayWE). Mario Bros. crossed 500k total on Sat and is on its way to well beyond 600k total, 700k are still possible.

Next weekend: The big opener will be Guardians of the Galaxy 3, it should become #1 but the question is if it can reach GotG2 (750k OW but a crappy multiplier) - presales don't give that impression. While for the longest time, Marvel sequels always managed to increase, this trend was already broken and will be broken again, I fear - I'd say a 500k OW would be ok for the Guardians. No other big openers, so family films should see ok drops (weather conditions so-so).

Seeing a Japanese Release in Germany on Top 10 for 3 Weekend is a rare artifact. Thank you Germany!

This is just a personal/subjective observation from my side, but i believe that the anime fan community has grown significantly in Germany over the last 5 years. Talking about anime shows and movies is a lot more common now among (mostly younger) people, its a lot closer to becoming more mainstream than like 10 years ago, when anime was still extremely niche.

Back in 1990s, Germany was supporting our content a lot strongly like 3.2M admits for Pokemon 1999. I wonder happen later. But, with no doubt, Germany is still our 2nd Biggest European Market after France. &I really hope that Our Content reaches Germany Core Audiences!

estimates for the top4 from insidekino.de

#1: GotG3: 500k (that's within expectations but really a big step down from GotG2, let's hope for better legs

#2: Mario Bros. - 300k (-31%, ok hold)

#3: EvilDeadRise - 70k (-46%, ugh)

#4: JW4 - 50k (-34%)

Depending on the  weather, we might get only 3 releases >50k, so overall a dull weekend ... GotG3 is opening about as high as the first one, but since sequels tend to have shorter legs, it might end up with the worst total of the three.

Not a good weekend, GotG3 opened within expectations but a lot lower than #2 - 1,7mil total should still be possible though if it doesn't  completely crumble next weekend (the one weekend it has without strong competition). The movie hit hardest among leftovers was D&D (as was to be expected).

In Austria, similar numbers but averall a bit higher, GotG3 was at about 65k after Sunday, Mario came in stronger too with >30k and already about 575k total by now.

Next weekend: No big releases, so the Top2 should be safe. I don't know about Germany but in Austria, the latest Asterix movie gets a pre-opening on Sat+Sun; presales look poor though so probably no big impact on other releases.

Rainy weather always makes for wonderful BO weekends!

May in generel looks on the rainy and colder and miserable side of things, so thats obviously great.

The second trend from insidekino.de:

#1 GotG3 400k

#2 Super Mario 250k

#3 EDR 42.5k

#4 Book Club 50k

#5 JW4 27.5k

#6 Das Lehrerzimmer 25k

#7 Sisu 22.5k

So overall a bit worse but maybe MarkG is conservative. It's as always grey and pretty cold where I live, maybe that's similar in other regions and the third trend will look better again.

Sadly not :(. The weather in Northern Germany is better than predicted (once again you can see the big impact). No wonder nobody wants to report the final trend:

#1 GotG3 325k
#2 Super Mario 175k
#3 EDR 40k
#4 Book Club 45k (with previews)
...
Sisu 20k

Overall the holds are still good. And at least the next days are predicted to become very mixed. Next weekend should be sunnier but they often predicted better weekend weather and then it was way worse.
