I really appreciate how much effort you put on updating this thread! Congrats!

Thank you :)

THat's not easy given there is no daily update so I do my best to help this thread existing. And I must say the current state of the Brazilian market is a bit frustrating : when I created it in 2012 it was a really promsing market with numbers that could be very impressive, Avengers and Twilight 2012 got such a crazy performance there with $61m and $25m, respectively, and I thought that even crazier numbers would be possible given the growth....

In local currency the market doesn't disappoint, it's definitely fantastic and fast-growing but the exchange rate changed so radically that the numbers in $ cannot go beyond $50m, if the ER was like 2012's 1 or 2 movies would be beyond $70m so it's a bit raging ahaha  But I still believe in this market, I know it's temporary and that crazy numbers and performances await us in the medium term :)

I don't want to sound indiscreet but since you are from France what makes you so fond of Brazil?

That's not really about Brazil, I love impressive numbers, box office, data and I wanted to follow a fast-growing market, having my own thread about one of those big, promising markets where records are broken each year. Brazil is definitely promising thanks to a population beyond 200 million inhabitants, quite young and much room to grow, so I know it was a "blue chip" as you could say so I chose it. That's also why I'm learning Brazilian Portuguese because I want to work in international trade and I wanted to know a language from a new, emerging market but one I could learn pretty fast so...Sure, I didn't expect Brazil to be in such a crisis with so many problems but it's still promising on the long run.

titanic 1997 was 70.5 m while 2012 3d version earned another 5.1m, i suppose the combined figure would be $75.6m instead of 70.5m

BOM already mixed Titanic 3D to Titanic 1997.

Titanic 97 grossed $1.6B WW but you can see it's $2.1B now, meaning they added Titanic 3D numbers. My numbers seem to be the good ones, that's why I added "+Titanic 3D"

no, they did not, the $70.5m is solely for '97 run while 3D version BOM put it under titanic 3D

BOM only added both run in the sum for foreign total figure, but for respective country, they still separate the figure for different run.

Like China,$44m was just from titanic original run while 145m was from 3D run, total up to $189m

Oh :o That wasn't a very logical move from BOM, they shouldn't mix them like they did for the WW numbers and foreign numbers.

Thank you for that, I'm going to correct this :)

Do you have a list like this but in local currency? I see it more interesting since it gives a more real perception because of ER changes. Thank you in advance :)

Sure :) You're right to ask for it, the ER has fluctuated so wildly that they are way more meaningful ;)

Box Office Brazil Top All-Time in Brazilian Reais (local currency)

The Avengers 2 : R$146.2m

Captain America Civil War : 143.5m

Furious 7 : 142.5m

Batman vs Superman : 132.5m

The Avengers : 129.6m

Minions : 120m

Suicide Squad : 118m

Os Dez Mandamentos The Movie : 116.4m

Finding Dory : 113.4m

Star Wars The Force Awakens : 110.9m

As you can see it's really different from the top in USD.

Thank you very much :)

This chart shows how much is increasing the market. Every film, excepting TA, are from 2015-2016 period. For example, in China happens exactly the same. Among the current top 10 in local currency, there is just one film previous to 2015.

Yep, it's an impressive growth in local currency : +10% in 2015 and +12% in 2016. Several 2017 movies are likely to reach the top 10 all-time, it's even obvious for Furious 8 and Justice League and surprises are likely : nobody thought Suicide Squad and Finding Dory would reach the top 10 this year :)

January 2017 would be tough to surpass 2015 or 2016, 2015 we had american sniper that went crazy and 2016 we had the strong post-hold from SW7, rogue one would be hard to match that 2

I guess you're talking about DOM right? American Sniper wasn't big in Brazil, but January was strong for sure, still I think January should be good enough in Brazil in 2017. :)
