Official weekend numbers B)

Dory repeats at #1 but with a smaller lead than expected to NYSM2, and it's slowing down compared with MU. It may be able to reach 500M lc and become Pixar's #2, although SLOP is generating a lot of buzz and will impact it with a vengeance.  Interestingly, IA5 had the lowest drop in the Top 10! NYSM2 opened way higher than the first one as per the post above. None of the other openers made any impact.

Weekly figures. IA5 and FD become the 27th and 28th movie to reach the blockbuster level of 400M lc. FD had a very good Mon-Thu hold, but SLOP is coming with a vengeance (see post above) this weekend, along with When The Lights Go Out (which should do relatively well) and The Wave. Batman: The Killing Joke was the only opener on Thu. NYSM2 already earned 2/3 (lc) of NYSM full gross in just 10 days.

Dory under $30m is a disappointment :( As a result it will be bigger in Brazil than in Mexico, something never seen for a Pixar movie!!

Here be weekend numbers. SLOP opened to 140.4M lc, biggest opening for an original animated movie, beating IO's 131.2M lc. It should be able to reach 350M with ease, even more if it breaks the animated curse!  In the meantime, it totally annihilated Dory and Scrat, both with drops over 70% FD will be lucky to reach MU figures. So far this has been a very disappointing summer in terms of big hits.

Boom. Cinemex (#2 movie theatre chain in the country) won't show SS in the country due to disagreements with last minute terms and conditions imposed by Universal Pictures Mexico. That's at least $10M wiped out from the total gross ... not good.

Do we know what these terms are? Cuz isn't Uni Mexico distributing other films like Pets and Bourne and these didn't face issues?

Cinemex' press release only mentions this:

Quote

"We had to take this decision because this movie's distributor, Universal Pictures Mexico, made a last minute change in the terms and conditions that had already been agreed upon. These new conditions leave Cinemex at a disadvantage against the competition."

That competition is most probably Cinépolis, the #1 chain.

This will damage severely SS, Mexico is basically a market of 2 chains, Cinepolis and Cinemex, even I am not sure if I will watch SS now because I prefer Cinemex over Cinepolis all the time.

It's also going to help SLOP a lot by losing less screens.

Weekly numbers.  Strong Mon-Thu for SLOP; Dory is no longer freefalling and it's this close to enter the all-time Top 20 in admissions. Lights Out becoming a sleeper semi-hit by reaching $3M.

SS had everything in its favour for a massive OW, but alas, see posts above. It should still lead the weekend and who knows, maybe even without Cinemex it will manage to open over $10M.

Even without Cinemex, a good $3.9M OD for SS, probably in the all time Top 20 in lc. OW should be around $11-12M, maybe more - BVS was immune to bad reviews.

Dory, IA5 and SLOP are being impacted in their gross because tickets are so cheap for kids this summer due to promotions!

I was surprised that toy story 3 wasn't in the top 5 all time, didn't it perform phenomenal in mexico?
