Purple Minion

Mexico Box Office | Kongzilla repeats on top, Civil War and Abigail underperform

Recommended Posts

Those two were my final reports for both chains, although i have to add some more things:

  • ER is at worst level in weeks and don't expect to recover for the rest of the week, it only may get worst but IW is not as bad as June-July and November-December releases will be. That said, floor in USD is $18.1M and roof is $22.1M, in lc should start between $360M-$380M buuuut... $400M+ have a big shot if demand is satisfied.
  • If doesn't start with 5,000+ screens eventually will reach it through the weekend.
  • If this hits 4,500+ screens for midnights (freaking insane!) then we'll have our first 500k admissions midnight seller, beating BvS, TFA and AoU by 100k+ admissions. $30M+ only from midnights road to a $150M+ OD.
  • 11 years ago Spider-Man 3 was the first $100M+ opener, then five years later Avengers became first title with a $200M+ OW and finally two years ago, Civil War was first (and only until today) $300M+ opener. Could Infinity War own the first $400M+ OW?

@manny1234 i did some research and yes, there was a Deadpool 2 screening here two days ago. Although i confused date for junket, that was today, yesterday were IW press screenings. And yup, there was an embargo too, press couldn't neither reveal when and where was going to be Reynolds, either that was a screening.

Seems like literally every market is outperforming expectations

The 11 screen theatre i went to only had 9 screens booked by 9 PM. They had to book the remaining two by 10:30 PM, all 11 screens sold-out. They have 10 screens for entire week only for IW, the other is shared by Rampage and AQP. Many shows (mine included) had to be delayed an hour because overwhelming demand on concessions.

Matinees started decent, nothing remarkable yet. Although many theatres have already sold-out every single show for today; 4D tickets flying fast, PLF w/ Atmos selling more slow. IMAX for main cities were sold-out before today.

ER improved a lot! After overperformance everywhere don't believe me but $9M+ OD are on cards.

IW OD is about same as SMH/BP OW so 170M+ local OD, or $9.1M usd?

All depends on how you take the ticket price figure. I'm conservative but midnight tickets boost a lot the average, plus I'm pretty sure this is smashing TFA's IMAX record and 4D is a beast so $9M+ is plausible.
