picores
Maybe I'm wrong here but I feel FF7 is slowing down pretty heavily. Well, after the record breaking opening and the nature of the franchise, it was always gonna be frontloaded.
Purple Minion
Oh oh. RDJ just said something in an interview that may impact negatively AoU in Mexico, specially if the local press picks on it and blows it out of proportion.

Fullbuster
what did he say? Racist comment. ->http://www.excelsior.com.mx/funcion/2015/04/25/1020760 Edited April 26, 2015 by Fullbuster
keysersoze123
Not sure Mexico is that well connected. So offline news outlet need to pick it up for it have an impact and it might still help more than hinder as no publicity is bad publicity. Fullbuster
But honestly it's not something huge or else, it's just a heavy-handed comment, it doesn't seem he wanted to say something insulting. The movie won't be affected by such a thing. Edited April 26, 2015 by Fullbuster
Purple Minion
It was a dumb thing to say though, involving what could potentially be one of its biggest intl markets. Social media is massive in Mexico, it only takes a Tweet from a popular account to unleash a negative reaction...let's hope that's not the case. Cynosure
Among stupid racist comments, this one has to be one of the dumbest ones I've seen. However, I think for a man who dropped out of high school to be able to put together a phrase like 'cultural genocide' just speaks to how bright he is. keysersoze123
That was not nice. he was trying to make a witty retort to inniratu's comments against SH movies but fell flat on his face. But I see it prominently on twitter already. He better apologize quickly. https://twitter.com/search?q=RDJ%20racist&src=typd
Fullbuster
This movie is really unlucky : weird release date, bad exchange rates, distribution conflicts and now that..It's like fate wanted it to be under TA1
Cynosure
Racist comments are not a matter of luck though.
Fullbuster
Racist comments are not a matter of luck though. For RDJ no, for the producers it is, you can't control entirely what people will say.
Cynosure
Yeah, for the producers I guess so. A mix of luck and RDJ being an idiot then. The producers better get him to apologize.

Purple Minion
Meanwhile, FF7 is up to US$49.4m (weekend < US$3m), Universal's highest movie in Mexico. I think it's now in the Top 5 of all time, isn't it? Edited April 27, 2015 by Palomito de Maiz
TalismanRing
I agree think he was trying to be funny but it will offend people who are sensitive on racial issues a very silly thing for a big name actor to say! People are offended by everything now. There's nothing racist about what he said. Spanish isn't a race, it's a language. If he said it about a native German speaker using a second language no one would bat an eye, especially since it was compliment. If we're talking offensive the use of the phrase "cultural genocide" in regards to movies is pretty fucking offensive to real cultural genocide that's occurred and is still occurring.
