That’s a good point. I’m not sure if Hobbes and Reyes (undated) and Fast X: Part 2 (scheduled for April 2025) could be as big. But now that their talks for a director have fallen through in February 2024, it’s becoming a bit more likely that it’ll be a big enough mess to turn people away. Mojoguy
I thought they would wait 10 years to reboot the Jurassic franchise after nearly everyone hated Dominion. What's the rush?

WittyUsername
Just get Ron Howard or something. He’s the quintessential studio yes-man, and his daughter was already involved in this franchise.

The surprising news came only a few days after we and others wrote about him being in talks to tackle the dinos. What happened? Part of the problem is that Universal is so far along on the project that Leitch would essentially have been more of a shooter than someone who could have really put his stamp on the film. "There's not enough time to work with new ideas," one source told us of the film, which has a script by David Koepp and an ambitious July 2, 2025 release date. According to another source, the producers have already done some dino design work and soft prep on the movie. But we can see why the film was attractive for someone like Leitch in the first place. It was going to lean into action territory (one source described it as having an Escape from New York vibe, but a Universal insider said that was not true. Well, what about the idea of weaponized dinosaurs? The insider said no.) Either way, Universal will be looking for a new director ASAP. It is such an obvious answer I wonder why anybody who has a grasp of the film business has to ask, I have problems with a lot of the films inthe franchise, but they all make money. a JP or JW film is one of the safer bets in the film industry. Dominion, for all that a lot of people did not like it, still made a mint for Universal. Edited February 10 by dudalb

Itls not like Uni wants to break any new ground with the films. Just give the public the mixture as before. Maybe one reason Leitch was dropped was Universal did not like his approach, which sort of abandoned the fomrula.
interiorgatordecorator
an article mentioned that universal really wanted the movie to be ready for summer 2025 and that's one of the reasons leitch wasn't hired why does universal so desperately want the movie to be ready by then? Universal needs a big summer blockbuster on short notice, and a jW films seem the best answer. Edited February 10 by dudalb

Speedorito
So basically they have to find a yes man who wants an easy paycheck to pump out a studio mandated film in 16 months.

That is pretty much it. Main reason for the rush is Uni apparently has a weak schudule for summer 2025, and needs a probably big hit fast. Alexander
Sounds like the perfect job for Peyton Reed lol. Honestly these big studios basically transformed into factories during mid / late 2010s and last year it became obvious a big part of audience had enough so what's the logic behind pushing a project like this one? They're lowering value of their top brands like there's no tomorrow and really that's how suits treat studio bussiness these days. Just deliver products and who cares how the biz looks like five years from now.

WittyUsername
David Leitch is hardly someone who could be classified as an auteur, so the fact that he wasn’t willing to take the job seems like a pretty damning indictment about what a cynical corporate product this thing is.
Napoleon
Between this and Moana 2, looks like studios learned nothing from the 2023 they've had. You would think they would take better care of their IP now, but I guess not. 3

Sounds like they pretty much have the main setpieces done and ready to just "insert actor here", and with the 16 month overall production time allotted, there is pretty much zero changes allowed from the script which they have to account for the director's style or vision. This will pretty much be an exec driven movie.

With this mindset, they'll run it to 400 mln WW gross in 2 installments.
