I think it's pretty bad actually. Guardians had a significantly higher opening, a much more positive reception and much wider appeal. So I don't think that comparison fits. A $180+ million movie with this low of an opening needs better than fine holds to have any hope of being a success.

We're looking at this wrong.

How does Fall Guy's hold compare to Civil War's first week hold? Because its actual launch weekend was closer to Civil War than a "blockbuster".

R-rated genre films like Civil War tend to hold better on weekdays, then have lower Friday and Saturday increases.

 

Looking at recent PG-13 movies that opened in this range outside of summer/holidays, The Fall Guy had the same Monday drop as M3GAN and The Woman King (they dropped 40% and 42% in their second weekend respectively, the former with the MLK weekend to soften it), and a slightly worse one than The Lost City (dropped 52% against Morbius' 39m, probably the closest comp to Apes) and Dungeons & Dragons (bulldozed by Mario).

There's not that much to "bulldoze" in terms of Fall Guy audience though. Unless it somehow started to draw mainly young people (as opposed to the anecdotal reports the audience was old)

If it is skewing old, Tuesday discount day might see a decent to great bump since those are the movies that do the best on that day. If only a eh jump than yeah not good....

Really want to see GxK at 190 or extremely close before the weekend. It’s time to start closing in on 200! Needs a 3m weekend. Weekend holds have been fantastic, but the weekdays are always such a drag when you’re trying to get to a goal.
