May 4, 2012 Weekend (AVENGERS Opening Discussion): ACTUAL 207.4 mill!!!!

Recommended Posts

I was wondering this exact same thing. I was also just wondering what a hypothetical film with 22m admissions and a 65(ish)% 3d share would gross OW. Or whether 22m admissions is even possible with a 65% 3d share...

I'm sure spizzer can calculate that for ya. :)

6.96 is the average 2D price. 7.18 is the overall average price (includes 3D/IMAX/Others)

Just a question, where on that site you linked can one see the avar, prices? I'm looking and can't find a thing.

Let's say that the IMAX share is 0%, 2D and 3D.

IMAX 3D $- 0.0% $14.85 -
Other $- 0.0% $15.30 -
2D $60,275,600 35.0% $7.83 7,700,000
IMAX $- 0.0% $14.50 -

How did you get low values of 6.96 for DK and SP3 6.75

Remember the Consumer Report link from earlier? Just apply the expected TICKET PRICE inflation rate between years 2012 and 2008 for TDK, and 2007 for SM3 Edited by spizzer

Thats easy simply do this.Tickets x ([0.65 x 3D Price] + [0.35 x 2D Price]) = GrossUsing quick basis of $11 and $8 will be $219M Edited by eXtacy

Interesting....You could go 60% 3d, 8% Imax, and 32% 2d, and it would go even higher.... 228millionish. The thing I was wondering is whether there are enough 3D screens at this point to accomodate that volume or whether you'd start seeing spillover into the second weekend like with Avatar. So you are calculating prices from 2008 for the whole year, including the end where prices were higher than when Dark Knight and SM3 sold most of their tickets, to first quarter ticket price that is not in the time where TA sold its tickets. Did I get that right, or is it something else that I'm missing? ps not for you. ;) I WANT SMILIES...... Why is the whole thing over my text box pale and I can't click on any of them. Edited by Shantal

Avengers had a record launch for 3D screens, in the vicinity of ~3700. If that helps

I'm using average expected price for the full year for all years, including 2012. I'm not using any of BOM's provided prices. Edited by spizzer

So I found the older ones, but I have to idea where to find the price expected for the current year. Google isn't helping. ): Edited by Shantal

I've been too focused on The Avengers and have barely noticed that The Avengers hit THG pretty hard. 400m just got a lot tougher. Might have to wait for it to hit dollar theaters.

Just take the most recent price (2011), and apply inflation. I provided a link to the consumerist on the last page.

Also, because you were quoting my HTML posts (the charts), your text-box has turned off editing mode. At the top left corner of the box, you should see a button that says "Toggle Editing Mode." Click that and you should be good.
